80s/90s Marvel Artists - who would you choose?

I became hooked on comic books as a kid in the early 80s. I became absolutely addicted to them in the late 80s and early 90s as a teenager. Lurking on these forums off-and-on since MPQs launch has given me a sense that a lot of you were weened onto Marvel around the same era.

I really enjoy it when a cover I’m familiar with (usually because it’s tucked away in a comic box in the garage) is used in Marvel Puzzle Quest from my days as an avid Marvel Maniac. The most recent example of this is Kraven’s cover - from Kraven’s Last Hunt, pencilled by one of my favorite artists of all time… Mike Zeck. I’ve been waiting patiently for a Zeck cover to make it into MPQ! There are several artists from that era who were/are legendary that I would love to see more covers from.

Which of the classic Marvel artists below, from that era, would you like to see more of?

(P.S. If Jim Lee didn’t already have multiple covers in MPQ he would have been included in this poll.)

80s/90s Marvel Artists - who would you choose?
  • Art Adams
  • John Byrne
  • Todd McFarlane
  • Frank Miller
  • George Perez
  • John Romita jr.
  • Marc Silvestri
  • Walt Simonson
  • Jim Starlin
  • Other (You forgot…!)

Rob Liefeld is the best

I considered putting him on the list (I only had room for 10 options) as he certainly was a hot and influential artist from that era.

Really?

Jim Lee

Bill Sienkiewicz

Your list misses a lot of the major artists

Other is going to be the winner by a mile because of it.

Barry Windsor Smith, for 6* Wolverine Weapon X.
Some of those Marvel Comics Presents covers are just astonishing.

I loved Ron Lim on Silver Surfer. Bob Layton on Iron Man.

John Byrne and George Perez are basically why I got into comics (but I associate Perez more with DC).

Jim Lee by a country mile

Maybe if we had more Marc Silvestri covers we could have women characters and not teen girl characters.

See my post script. Already lot of Jim Lee covers in game.

I had a list of 30 I wanted to use. Poll restricts to 10, so I had to whittle them down to my favorites. You are right, that era had a lot of great artists!

John Buscema. His art in the early Wolverine solo comic defined the character for me before I could ever recognize the work of a McFarlane, Leifeld or Lee. I was so upset when issue #17 rolled around and they brought John Byrne in for a 5-issue arc, I nearly quit buying the comic.

Alex Ross on Marvels and Kingdom Come

There are so many good ones, many of whom you listed. I am going to go with Erik Larsen though.

Just about every artist that worked on Ghost Rider vol 3 besides maybe fill-in artists.

Javier Saltares
Mark Texeira
Andy Kubert
Adam Kubert (technically spirits of vengeance)
Ron Garney
Salvador Larroca

Virtually a whos-who of constant talent on the book up til his late 90s redesign.
