I became hooked on comic books as a kid in the early 80s. I became absolutely addicted to them in the late 80s and early 90s as a teenager. Lurking on these forums off-and-on since MPQs launch has given me a sense that a lot of you were weened onto Marvel around the same era.
I really enjoy it when a cover I’m familiar with (usually because it’s tucked away in a comic box in the garage) is used in Marvel Puzzle Quest from my days as an avid Marvel Maniac. The most recent example of this is Kraven’s cover - from Kraven’s Last Hunt, pencilled by one of my favorite artists of all time… Mike Zeck. I’ve been waiting patiently for a Zeck cover to make it into MPQ! There are several artists from that era who were/are legendary that I would love to see more covers from.
Which of the classic Marvel artists below, from that era, would you like to see more of?
(P.S. If Jim Lee didn’t already have multiple covers in MPQ he would have been included in this poll.)
I had a list of 30 I wanted to use. Poll restricts to 10, so I had to whittle them down to my favorites. You are right, that era had a lot of great artists!
John Buscema. His art in the early Wolverine solo comic defined the character for me before I could ever recognize the work of a McFarlane, Leifeld or Lee. I was so upset when issue #17 rolled around and they brought John Byrne in for a 5-issue arc, I nearly quit buying the comic.
