Sunspot is in my AAPI Vault. Not sure if it’s the same for everyone, but why is he in this vault. Unless Marvel retconned something again, he’s Brazilian and has nothing to do with Asian representation.
So, why is he there?

I wonder if someone has mistaken Sunspot for Sunfire and failed to realise that Sunfire is not actually in the game.

Even if Brazil were a part of AAPI, he is considered Afro-Brazilian and still wouldn’t count.

The best answer I got is they made two separate AAPI vaults and wanted to avoid doubling up on who was in them, but there were 8 total 5* spots and 7 total AAPI 5s.
So they just looked for “non-white character who is strong and relatively under-covered” or something and picked him. All the 5s in AAPIalooza were released since 2023, so maybe that was a factor (newer folks).

I think random “non white character” as a criteria might be the most racist possible way to have handled this. It would be like including Jessica Jones in black history month because Luke Cage has been there and done that.
They could have at least used Okoye for old times sake or, I dunno, filled the slot with something different? They chose to do two vaults, did they have to be reflective of each other?
The simplest way they could have improved that would be not referencing AAPI in the name.
Most characters in the vault are AAPI to coincide with the month? Great!
Some characters aren’t AAPI in the vault? Doesn’t matter if the vault title doesn’t appear to promise that they should be.
Also, while we should definitely encourage representation in the game, it might be nice not to have everything tied to themed months. Especially if some of those months seem to only be things in the US. It smacks of box ticking. Why not fill the same quotas that themed months provide but distribute characters evenly around the year and at least claim that things were done because a character was cool rather than making it transparent that there is a quota.
Although, there is one representation quota we could cut back on. I’m looking at you novelty animals month. Even in the US calendar you’re not a month.

Checked in and yes. Was just a Sunfire-Sunspot mistake. We can’t replace him in the vault with someone else without having issues with the vaults resetting, so he’ll stay in there for the duration.
Sunspot has definitely not been retconned… Unless you count his appearance in this vault as canon…

Well obviously this means you guys have to add Sunfire now.
Honestly I’m not really sure what’s taken so long, but I guess another guy with flame powers after all the Torches presents some design challenges to do a unique thing.
Anyway, I always liked Sunfire.

Well we have 130 Spidermens, 53 Wolverine/Daken/X-23/Sabreteeth, and 300 variations of “Is strong, do punchy” so there’s gotta be some way to add him!

Glad we got the Sunspot/Sunfire mix up resolved before we got an Apocalypse boss fight with Sunspot on a sub node.
Sunfire is high on my wishlist of characters that are missing. He would have made a good 3/5 dual release if they were still doing those. 3 star as classic look and 5 star as Famine or AoA look.
