Any Support changes for Anniversary or beyond?

Hey all! I’m just curious if there will be any changes to how Supports work or new ones or ways the tokens or shards will work.

I guess I’m a selfish hoarder, but I’m sitting on many tokens and I could just pull 'em and continue to increase Supports, but I really would like to hold on to them if there’s a potential for a better way to get 4 supports rather than “I accidentally pulled them in my tokens!” Because using shards to pump up 2 star to 3 star to 4 star to 5 is an insane loss in shards, rather than praying and pulling the 4 star you need and then only needing 1600 shards.

Anyway, would love to hear if Supports will be added to or changed at any point or if they are a plateaued feature. (I don’t want to say dead since they are a huge part in the game, they just haven’t changed much in a long time.)

Considering there hasn’t been a support released in nearly 3 years now, and that they stated in an earlier post that they aren’t working on any changes with supports.. chances are low.

The devs have said (if I’m remembering correctly, it was in a Q&A) that Supports are not currently on the priority list at the moment.

Edit - I got 2 “likes” when my phone autocorrected “priority” to “prototype”. Glad yo knew what I meant!

Reasons, presumably, supports have been paused if not permanently abandoned:

  1. New ones need to power creep old ones to matter (aka encourage spending) but existing ones already essentially broke the game design space with free AP being a thing. Also, the defense ones we can’t even use in PvP anymore….obviously not a space they want to push the limits.
  2. Many players have long finished all the supports that matter to them or all of them and are hoarding tokens now. So as soon as a new one releases they’d just dip into hoarded tokens vs spending on them etc especially if the support doesn’t seem very interesting or exciting.
  3. The fact that supports can be fairly easily conpleted means a new one won’t even be that interesting as a goal for very long.
  4. Presumably the money from new ones that did release wasn’t enough that they felt it was worth creating new ones.

Unless there’s a strong revenue case I don’t think they have much interest in adding supports Either they release power creeping new ones that people maybe spend on, or they release ones that don’t change things so no on cares to chase them.

I think the potential for supports is great. I think I’d prefer character-specific supports to “rebalances”. Just put the synergy perk on and nothing else - something great but but nothing completely outrageous.

And make them accessible by allowing a cover swap of the character for them.
