So I just want a quick community consensus on which 2* Tank I should take as my main once I finish one of them.
My Ares is in fairly good shape. Just need 4 more covers to complete him. He is 2/2/5 right now. My MN Thor needs 5, but requires a respec (I was unlucky and got too many Red covers for him) as he is 5/2/1 right now.
I see a lot more Thor than I do Ares, probably due to his covers being a little bit easier to obtain.
I am aware of each of their merits. Thor being a good heavy hitter that also doubles as a battery. Ares being a low cost executioner.
I am leaning more towards Ares at this point seeing as I will have him completed much sooner and how much pain he can deal out with only a few matches. However, I also do want to prepare for the future as well.
Right now also constructing OBW and Wolvie. Although I also have had bad luck with my Wolvie covers and need to respec him (The game loved giving me yellow covers).
For those two, I’d use Aries. Wolvie drops strike tiles which OBW doubles up on. If Aries’ yellow is maxed, you have an active and powerful yellow ability for damaging the target, and the net health loss isn’t too bad when your health is returned after the countdown, plus the matching of yellows can potentially heal Wolvie as well. Depending on the situation, you have the option of damaging all with Aries’ red, or one big hit from Wolvie’s red.
Thor will work just as well, though. I just prefer the synergy with Aries than Thor.
I love Ares. He’s my go to 2*. I ended up buying hp just to finish his green and yellow when I first started playing. Like 4 covers which is well spent. He is a lot harder to get compared to Thor, who is more easily shut down in a world of OBW in 2* land.
For speed runs I generally use Ares OBW and Daken. Yum yum.
I recommend Ares but you will have to do a lot of Prologue healing because you’ll probably be unable to out-heal the damage you’re doing to yourself.
Onslaught: unless you only use this when there are no more opponents that can use green (in which case Call The Storm is better), you’re expecting a retaliation blow. Sunder: you’re gonna eat quite a bit of damage from this move, sometimes because they destroy the tile, sometimes because you have to do a kill-move or you’ll take more damage, either way, you aren’t coming out unscathed.

Thor if you want board control with decent damage, Ares if you want want very strong and damaging attacks. You can’t really go wrong with either since they’re both great and serve their own purposes for your team.
Thunder Strike into Call the Storm is pretty much the best combo attack in the game, so if you got both on level 5 you should use Thor. Actually you can use both since OBW covers the other 3 colors anyway.
Ares is better if your covers are lacking since he doesn’t depend on having two skills at level 5 as much as Thor does.
You use onslaught for priorities. 6green for 1200 damage is no joke. In the 2* range you generally fight Thor/Ares/wolverine + OBW and the required. You match some tiles and bring enemy OBW to lethal and down her. It doesn’t matter if you give Thor some green. Usually you just recon it back with your own OBW. It hurts a bit against enemy Ares since he can retaliate with an onslaught too.
Sunder eats fats, really well too and then you stock up more a bigger pile of green to kill whatever’s left. I’ll take Ares to fight a Hulk. I won’t take Thor. And I notice myself only doing partial damage with Cts since one enemy is usually dead.
I favor Ares and haven’t looked back even with a max Thor. Fathor is a different story though…
I voted for Thor simply because he has board control (limited) and his abilities don’t backfire or hurt you nor require the user to be badly hurt. Ares is very cool having 3 active awesome abilities (whereas Thor red is lackluster even among 2*s), but he’s often locked in PvE, being a bad guy. And yes you will need lots of healing with Ares around. If it’s possible, level both. Thor is buffed more often if anything simply because he’s a hero.
I used Ares in Bad is Good for the first time and he is way more fun to use. Like people said he is faster and can deal boat loads of damage. You can build up green to down someone in one go (I sometimes use a calculator
), or combine it with his red to kill. Yellow is also equally fun, very powerful ability but requires some amount of healing afterwards.
Onslaught is good for getting rid of OBW before she can do an Aggressive Recon, and to a lesser extent this works on The Hood but The Hood has more HPs. Otherwise there are generally redundant green coverage on a strong team because there is just a whole mess of powerful characters with strong green powers. It’s a good attack but it has its limitations.
Ares has a faster green but otherwise they’re about equal, and they’re actually about the same in terms of getting a big green attack because Thunder Strike fuels a ton of green, and it’s not always best to use Onslaught as soon as possible.
God, I really love Ares[annoying teenage girl voice]! I don’t have him maxed yet so I can’t really compare the skills with Thor, but he does seem pretty good for a 2*, probably as good as my maxed MN Thor when leveled more. Also I have this thing with his sounds and animations- I find them so cool I almost always kill Ares the last when fighting him even when he’s the biggest threat(I know, very illogical)
