I can’t figure out how this card is counting colors. It seems to not count cards that are 5 colors, or cards that share one color, but not others.
“When you cast this card: Destroy the top X cards of your library. When this creature enters the battlefield: Return up to the first X Creature or Support cards from your graveyard to play under your control. X is the number of colors among cards you control.”
Having ‘The Prismatic Bridge’ out doesn’t result in X equaling 5. Having this card, ‘Vraska, the Silencer’ (B/G) and ‘Kylox’s Voltstrider’ (U/R) out doesn’t result in X equaling 4.
Is it counting total cards in the graveyard, including spells, instead of just the permanents, as part of X?
So is it counting X as each color present, or X as each card of a different color? Because for me it seems to be the latter. I’m using the Reaper King PW, and with his first ability, creating a 5-color scarecrow, that doesn’t seem to be counted, based on the number of cards that go into the graveyard and the number of permanents that come out.
My recollection was that using leyline of the guildpact as the only 5 colored card on the board, AA worked as described, but occasionally something that worked (for years) is broken in an update.
I might try to recreate my scenario, but I expect it will not be today.
Ok, I just tried using AA. Luckily, I had my deck save to a PW deck slot.
I’m playing with Wrenn and seven and I’m using leyline of the guildpact in support of triggering AA.
I have observed that multiple cards are registered as cast in the battle log, when I’m casting AA.
In my first test I had four creatures and supports in my GY and the log showed four cards being cast after casting AA.
In test 2 I began to see something weird. If AA was in GY when I cast my first AA (on the board) the resurrected AA trigger before finalizing the first AA.
This issue (test 2) seemed to be confirmed in my 3rd test where I had multiple AA in my GY and the log was a complete mess but my GY was (almost empty). The number of cards in my GY seemed fairly correct after each casting of AA, but it is very confusing to determine if the AA triggers 100% correctly, if there are AA in the GY.
Thank you, this is very helpful. I noticed that AA seemed to respond differently, if it was summoned, vs casted, but I haven’t been able to Goldfish a story game consistently to verify what’s happening. You’ve given me some things to check, once I can get back into the game.
It’s been very frustrating trying to test this card. It would be great if a dev would look into this and clarify how the card works.
Without the ability to goldfish my deck, I can’t tell exactly what parameters are involved in triggering AA. It seems that it doesn’t recognize certain cards as being multiple colors, or it only counts permanents of different colors. And how it behaves when other AA are in the graveyard ruins any chance of seeing the effects clearly.
From my experience, if you are not explicit about the issue, the devs won’t allocate time. That is seriously annoying when you are having trouble defining the fault, so I won’t expect an answer from them just yet.
Sometimes you can get lucky and get some of the players (which spends loads of time in the app to start bug-hunting to help you).
The chance of getting that help increases, if you can describe your findings in more detail.
So please note stuff like PW, which multi-colored cards you are using in support of triggering AA. Then we can try to recreate your findings, but right now your description is not precise enough.
All that said, having read your post there is one (common) error the devs do again and again that is getting the numbers wrong. Therefore I ask, could it be that the number of colors are x-1, so a dual color-card will only count as one in the AA trigger? I think I only saw AA trigger with 4, perhaps green does not count?!?
Also maybe AA only considers one card the card with the highest number of colors, so if you have multiple dual colored cards you don’t get the amount of cards back as you expect.
Edit - I’m fairly sure that it is only permanent cards on the board that counts (in response to your musings on this subject).
@Tremayne
Thank you so much for your response. I was afraid of getting too much into the weeds, but I see what you mean about details. I’ll try to put together some better tests with more details.
I wish they would bring back the old story events, as they were easier to test against. Regardless, you’ve given me new energy to tackle this.
