Backed the wrong horse! Dup crafting system

I have backed D3’s duplicate to Runes conversion completely. So how do I and people like me benefit from this new dup crafting system?

Will I be stuck now that I have millions of runes that wont be of use in the new crafting environment? Do I start hoarding dups now?

Do we know if the runes are going to be of use at all in this new mechanic. I did not see anything stated in the release. and so do I now stop converting to runes because of that new crafting system that they are putting in place?

Seems to me that this is yet another knee jerk reaction from D3. I remember the conversations with @SellerSloan and @adman149 about this very problem way back when. I went all in on conversion while they have hoarded their dup’s.

I certainly wish I had followed those guys, because back then I know that @adman149 had nearly 100 dup Mythics by that time, he probably has tripled that by now.

With the prospective system described, only hoarded Amonkhet duplicates have any real value.

Well that takes a load off!

It’s too bad there’s not a way to convert duplicates from specific sets.

The value of runes doesn’t change with the new system, so I don’t understand that argument. I mean, for most people, it has the opposite effect that they have a harder time getting runes. But a “What do I do with all my wealth now?” doesn’t seem like a strong argument in any case.

I have to agree with killwind on this, the current dupe system that grants runes is fair. When it changes players such as killwind are at a loss. Personally I think all current dupes at a minimum should be converted to runes and then start everyone even. This is coming from a player with a fairly large amount of dupes in all rarity, and not including all the previous converted ones. Rewarding players for hoarding is fine, but this will essentially punish players that utilized the current system. As for rune value; getting Hixus is worth astronomically more than converting 25 dupe myths. Would you trade 25000 runes for a card like Hixus or TSP. I would honestly give 25000 for embermaw. So no runes value do not really hold since players converted already to get them and will not be offered to get a card for rune. The only use for runes is leveling and you can get enough between new PW releases to max them out anyway.

its not wealth if there is nothing to spend it on, so tell me again how im wealthy?

But it’s a system that should help players deal with their dupes not their runes. Another question: if you have such a surplus of runes, why continue converting?

I just don’t get the point of your post as it seems separate from the actual topic. “What do I do with all my runes?” is a fair question. “Why does a system that deals with dupes not deal with runes?” seems beside the point.

You’re spiritually wealthy. Stop lording it over all of us.

You can afford loads of deck slots with those runes! Buy one of Chandra 2, maybe!!

In what way it will punish players ? You still have very simple choice to make when leveling up your PW or buying deck slot, You either

  1. spend your own time grinding for runes in QB/TG/Story Mode this
  2. convert duplicates to save time

now when we all dancing and singing KUMBAYAH in the act of solidarity to players which chose option 2 and saved their real life time can players from option 1 can have their time back ??
I will accept elixir of immortality

PS. what about those clever guys from option
3) I will anticipate those overly-persistent players demanding equality and will choose not to open any of my packs, still sitting on 300+ unopened booster packs

The only reason I like to convert is that annoying banner over my cards that makes the top row unreadable. I really don’t need runes right now, so I am stockpiling duplicates

I get that its annoying.. I accidently converted my dupes about 3 months ago. However, if I had known that grinding endless QB would have led to an eventual rune conversion system I would have focused on more QB… it goes both ways.

Regardless, I am not sure you will miss out on much. Converting all our BFZ, SOI, KLD mythics and rares will get us a conversion currency that cant be used in standard. So, we can’t really use these new cards for anything meaningful. This seems like the compromise they reached based on the problem I mentioned above. I mean honestly, how many of your million runes are really from converting dupes? I know duskpaladin accidentally converted at one point. His 94 dupe mythics and thousands of other cards were worth like 180,000 runes. Lol

Similar problem, I converted all my dupes to runes intentionally when the matchmaking system broke and I was trying to use a level 40 Tezzeret against level 60 opponents, and found I needed a quick influx of runes just to be able to compete :frowning:

At least I still have my 8 duplicate Channeler Initiates (yes, I now have 9 of that rare since it’s been my rare card from every event reward, and I managed to pull another one from my daily booster, and pulled several from normal pack boosters) to convert into hopefully not more Channeler Initiates when the system launches.

Lol. The system thinks you love that card…or you are pulling all of my copies.

As for punishing when I started playing there was nothing in foreseeable future for dupes; so why not convert them? If players knew in further in advance, more than like a week ago, they probably would have saved them. Since at this point you only need so many runes, and cards carry a much higher value. It really boils down to this; you kept dupes because you kept your fingers crossed hoping for something to sway in your direction. A known system existed that you didn’t like. So because of this you should be rewarded for ignoring the current game conversion. This has all the bearing of a tantrum like my 2 year old throws when he doesn’t get his way.

Everyone to include myself should have all dupes converted to runes then start the new system. I used the current system until getting in with top 25 coalitions. It was only then that these players said save them we are trying to get the devs to implement a better dupe system.

PS someone’s thoughts and open minded opinion is not a reason to be rude. Maybe less time in game and more time practicing tact might prove functional. It won’t be an elixir of immortality, but it will help you get further in general.

I would gladly trade you one if I could

I am with @killwind on this, I always converted. A short time after D3 suggested they might have a different use for duplicates I stopped converting. I already had plenty to lvl60 all the PWs and give them all an extra deck slot. I even have a couple million left over.

Now I wish I had never converted any for the relatively few (and now worthless) runes they produced.

I will say that having those runes is a tremendous advantage going forward when it comes to leveling planeswalkers. I’m already being parsimonious with my 400k or so, as the last thing I want to do is not have enough runes for Nissa3 or other seemingly powerful planeswalkers.

As someone who finds himself perfectly hedged(still have lots of runes, dupes and unopened boosters), this is ridiculously unfair to people who converted earlier.

No don’t tell me about the devs announcing their u turn a few months ago. I know they did. What I’m talking about is the official stand for months leading up to it that there was no alternative use to duplicates planned.

Yes we can argue about opportunity cost all day. But the argument that should rise above all others is this : players should not be penalised for believing what the devs have put down in black and white.
