I guess I’m the only one here finding success with Spider-man? Luke (95 @ 5/2/2) is only generating 1 78 strength protect while Spider-man (81 @ 3/1/3) is generating up to 3 48 strength tiles with no webs out (96 w/2, 144 w/3). Provided I can keep out 3 protect tiles with Spidey, it completely floors Swarm damage. Plus, he’s got a rainbow synergy with Hulk.
I didn’t care for Loki, too squishy. Mischief fires a lot, but those tiles rarely last long enough to do anything. Trickery only works on the strength & protect tiles, not the attack tiles.
I’ve been running a combination of GSBW, Hulk, LThor, or Thor**, IM40, and in a pinch Stormneto and/or Hawkeye Modern. Thor sets up green quite nicely as well as Hulk. IM40 has a great blue that does some great damage along with his recharge that has saved me by creating red for GSBW to do an emergency clear. Then Hulk is just the Hulk. I like doing the AOE damage to help clear the nodes faster and it works for speed against Ultron if you can clear the bombs fast enough. LCap can do wonders here to with his overwrite, but I don’t have it to that level yet.
Here’s what I’ve been using for a couple of the essentials…
Thor essential - Falcon (166) and Cage (only 45). Cage sets a shield, Falcon increases it with yellow matches which in turn help give Thor Thunder Strike. I’ve had a Cage shield up to strength of 1200.
Quicksilver essential - Patch (144) and Daredevil (114). obviously Daredevil Radar Sense counters Patch Berserker, but I use Quicksilver to move Daredevil’s Ambush. Triggering Ambush after Berserker is almost an immediate kill.

Not the optimal combination but so far I haven’t failed with this team composition (granted, my characters took a fair well amount of damage in the process,
is guaranteed to be used up by the time all 6 nodes are completed).
3*Thor and Kamala + essential, as long as kamala is alive for round 2 ( she is lvl 102 4/3/5) with 24 green, i can usually off it without them getting a turn. If it is a 4 man wave, 1 hit of Call of Storm from Thor kills off the first guy and hurts the rest, Kamala kills off the other 2 almost killing last guy, 1 more ability fire and it is over.
I’ve been running Hulk & Thor with the essential character. With maxed green, Hulk clears the board pretty well, although Call the Storm is always nice to have to down multiple characters (with a little setup). It not as health-pack friendly as a Luke Cage or Spiderman team, but I only have one cover between both of those characters at the moment. Typically, I need two health packs every three nodes, for what it’s worth. I’ve been using Cap, IM40 & KK on the Ultron node, so it’s pretty easy to do full clears without running out of health.
What have people without good 3-star characters been using for these survival nodes? I could see some of the common DDQ 2-star teams having more problems here (mainly due to low health and OBW not being boosted), but maybe I’m exaggerating the difficulty…
Am I the only one who’s feeling as if the goons are generating way more offensive tiles now, and not protect tiles? Even with Cage, I’m losing characters just via accumulated match damage, because instead of trading -1’s while I build up AP, they’re generating mostly attack and strike tiles, and overwhelm Cage’s tile, even at 5 red. In Ultron1, unless crits started going off, I was barely taking damage. This feels way harder now.
I’m getting more use out of Hawkeye than I have in ages. With Thor and/or GSBW setting him up, his boosted Speed Shots are lethal. There are so many board shakes during the match that you inevitably get at least one crit off.
