Cage Match Progression Reward Error?

It looks like 4* Luke Cage progression reward is a red cover, which was the same color as the lowest tier PVE reward cover.

Shouldn’t the reward be a yellow or black cover?

Nope, black and yellow were the pvp placement awards too. Red was expected.

Yeah, I don’t remember them giving away the bottom placement color of Wasp for her PvP, because afterwards I had her at 0/1/2; one from personal placement, one from alliance T100, and one from 1k PvP.

It sucks that we’re getting the “common” color from the release, because that means a lot of people will have him at 0/0/3, and that means he’ll languish in the shithouse for the forseeable future.

Expected, yes. But having 2 up for placement will always put the 3rd cover up for progression

Sadly, this is just the shitty way they tend to do this stuff, the easiest placement cover, the alliance cover and the subsequent pvp cover usually tend to all be the same one when getting people to at least one cover per colour would help the chances of people buying covers directly in the long run.

This is not my impression. I usually only get a single cover from the release PvE and then Another from the PvP, but this is the first time in a long time that the two covers have had the same color. In fact, I usually end up with one cover in each color - one from PvE top 100, one from PvP progression and one from next season’s SHIELD Simulator.
This discrepancy could be because this is the first PvP release with clearance levels - having two different colors as placement rewards makes the options more limited, I suppose. I hope this is not repeated in future releases, I like getting different colors.

This is correct. It’s not usual for the top 100 release/alliance cover to be the same as the 1k cover in the launch event.

BUT, it will become the norm now unless demi changes the way the cover cycling works.

Please fix this issue demi.

I saw this less as something intentional, but just a byproduct of the cover reward cycle of PVP rewards. If you haven’t noticed they are severely patterned in the way they present top, middle and last powers for rewards. I havent studied if the pattern changed with CL, but old pattern was

event 1 placement- Character A top power
event 2 progression- Character A middle power
event 2 placement- Character B bottom power
event 3 prog- Character B top
event 3 placement- Character C middle

etc…

Yes, there is an intentional rotation to the cover orders. But as this is the first time Luke Cage is a PvP reward, that’s not really relevant.

Did they change it from RNG? They had previously said that reward structure colors were started with an RNG for which tiers got which colors. We criticized them for that, but I don’t recall a response indicating that they were no longer using RNG to determine which cover they were giving away and sticking to a release pattern.

I don’t Think there has been any statement either way. That said, the last time they doubled up on a cover like this was so long ago I can’t remember when it was.

I think it is. Using the above rotation, lets apply it to the current event

Psylocke progression- Moon Knight top power (black)
Psylocke progression (1)- Power man top power (yellow)
Psylocke placement (2-5)- Power man middle power (black)
Power man prog- Power man bottom power (red)

So it appears that the new wrinkle with CL is that the 1st place gets the same style cover as the placement. Again, looking at the power man event rewards, that holds true because the 1st place reward is Chulk black. The pattern is based on event, not the last time the cover ran in rewards.

This was not unheard of under the old system either; when Spider-Gwen debuted the top 100 cover for PvE was red, and then the 1K cover in PvP was red.

Demiurge_Miles let the cat out of the bag about RNG to determine cover rewards. What’s even funnier is the title of this thread is very similar to the title of that thread.

This in turn spawned this topic:

Do we know that’s still valid? it is 18 months old.

Unknown.

Nothing would lead me to believe they would change it without spinning it as an improved feature.

With only 3 covers to choose from each event, it’s not hard to try and establish a pattern that may or may not be intentional.

My mistake I lumped the pvp cover in with the t100 and alliance covers, they should still do more to address the matter as it doesn’t help their sales to leave people at 0/x/x since there isn’t even the option buying the third cover with cp then.
