Character not in front as expected after match

I have 3* Captain Marvel in the middle, and Psylocke on the left.

Both of them report that they do 79 damage with a red match, and 62 with a black match, but my reds and blacks have Psylocke icons on them, and Psylocke goes to the front when I match them. I would expect them to be Captain Marvel icons, and for Captain Marvel to be in front after matching them, since she’s in the middle and she’s doing the same damage as Psylocke.

Maybe it’s because of their level? Psylocke is 169 and Captain Marvel is 167. Still though, I thought position was supposed to be the decisive factor when the damage was a tie…

IIRC, characters can have fractional damage point values - so (for example, pulling numbers from thin air) Captain Marvel’s red damage may be 79.2 while Psylocke’s is 79.5, and so Psylocke tanks red.
