In the hunt it would seem that a 4 star that came out only 2days ago is going to be essential. Does this seem odd to anyone else? How many people are going to have this chacater this quickly? Even heavy spenders probably won’t have many covers. Did I read the preview wrong?

Every release cycle is the same.
- PVE event, Character available in tokens, rewarded for high placement.
- PVE event, Character available in progression, required for Essential node.
- PVP event, new character awarded for placement.
- PVP event, new character required for event, available in progression, and featured in special PVP tokens with boosted odds.
Yes, the nodes requiring the new character are a little rough in the second event, because the character is bound to be under-covered (even people that spend to cover them well tend to wait to do so until the PVP tokens are available). But that’s by design. By making the character essential in the second PVE event, players are given reason to compete for the new character, because it will effect the event immediately following the initial release.
I wish I was playing with 2 when I was paired with my 1 black cover Agent Venom 
The other two required are not the most popular in the game either , lots of people don’t roster moonstone or Ragnarok so some won’t have any of the three this time
I’m hoping for a top 50 placement this event so hopefully I’ll have a single C and D cover
