D3's response to the Rag nerf

"Hello!

Recent changes to one of the title’s more popular characters, Ragnarok, has resulted in a ton of feedback within the Marvel Puzzle Quest community. While we feel that the updates to this character will ultimately benefit the community as a whole, we understand that some of you may be frustrated by this decision. Not only the actual changes, but the fact that these changes came without warning.

We have taken this feedback into consideration and come up with a plan that will allow our constantly-evolving game world to continue growing, while also providing the community with more insight and choices related to these plans.

Moving forward from today, we will now announce our re-balancing plans for characters on the forums in advance of any changes. In fact, you may have already seen a post related to this very topic. We hope this will allow members of the community time to consider these planned changes in advance of the release. In addition, we will provide more insight into why we have made these changes or how we believe they will benefit the community (Our recent Invisible Woman announcement is an example of this).

We will also continue to look into those of you that were negatively impacted by our Ragnarok change to see how we can support you in a fashion that is fair to all members of the community.
Once we have decided internally on how to do this we will post the full details on our forums.

EDIT - I am also surprised no one has posted this yet…

Thank you so much for your patience while we’ve been going over all of this.

I would just like to be reimbursed for all the hp spent on rag to be honest… but at this point I am willing to take anything and cut my losses haha.

Best thing to do would be too up-balance Rag somewhere to the average of the original Rag and BagRag

Translated from customer service speak - we already have your money, sucks to be you. And we might actually let you know in advance next time - but we don’t care that it got dropped on you with no warning.

I’m playing with Rags again. I enjoy him, especially paired with Ares in the desert environment. I do think the damage on thunderclap could get bumped up (although the rebalance of thorverine might change my mind there), or a third skill could be added, but now that its been a few weeks, I am quite as depressed with his changes.

My Thor is 3/5/5 so Rags is still viable for me. Not in every team I use now but still a good character. I’m glad to be able to stand by my “I don’t care if they nerf Rags” comments from months ago.

Once the Thor nerf hits people will start bringing out their Rags again. I think that the people who dumped HP into the character a week before the nerf was done could use a handout, but for everyone that had him running at 5 red for the months that preceded the nerf, well I’m sure they won many rewards by spaming the last few minutes of matches. Love the new communication from the developers over the past week or so. Love the direction the game is going. icon_e_biggrin.gif

As someone that did get to take advantage for at least a month and a half that would be fine by me. But that’s because of my usual I just don’t care attitude icon_e_biggrin.gif

This is a great first step, but some proper testing before you release a character would be even better. Take a look at other games. Smite is in open beta for almost a year in order to give players the best experience after the game is officially released.

You really don’t have to look far for this. Just offer the option to downgrade any ability just as you gave the option to purchase covers for HP. For a game like this, it is no brainer and the best possible solution. It is also quite fair, in case you are interested in fairness.

I don’t think your translation is entirely accurate or fair, but to each his own.

Show me where I’m wrong and I might reconsider. But their actions have so far followed my translation.

They have offered a list of characters that are going to be re-balanced. So where you stated “we might actually let you know in advance next time”, they have already done so. As for the “we don’t care that it got dropped on you with no warning”, you just made this statement up.

A warning that some unknown changes will come to these some day in the future is not a useful warning.

Your point has been well made sir. In fact I think the developers are just trying to piss us all off so we quit the game. They know exactly what changes will be made to the game for not only this week, but for the next three years. They are just pretending that they are trying to problem solve. The problem has already been solved. icon_eek.gif

Nice troll. Have a cookie.

Seriously? The devs have done a fine job at keeping us updated with future changes since the rags incident. You cant expect them to know exactly when theyre going to nerf characters. They cant be too specific about it either until the changes are finalized:If they said something like “wolvies nerf is coming next week”, and then it doesnt get pushed that week due to unforeseen circumstances, then people like you are going to be stirring up a storm on the forums.software development just isnt that simple.

OK I’m sorry I took that to far. I suppose that we just disagree with the changes in developer to customer communications. I believe that they have been vastly improving the way they communicate in-game, and on the forum. Regardless of our disagreement I wish you the best. icon_e_biggrin.gif

A lot of us are still waiting on the upcoming changes for Thor / Wolv 2* / Wolv 4*.

And once they are finalized, they’ll let us know, and we’ll get a short notice (and likely preview) before the changes appear in the next patch.

We should see them before they are finalized. There should be an opportunity for discussion.

For example, if they increase the cost of Wolverine’s Feral Claws from 3 AP to 23 AP, there will be a lot of discussion along the lines of the nerf being far too extreme. Convincing discussion. Enough for the Devs to reconsider. If it goes from 3AP to 6AP, with something else to balance it, then likely the Dev’s explanation will be accepted.

Besides… nothing is really final anyways. They should give visibility to proposed changes early.

Again ragnarok nerf.. I do think it"s time to move on ppl
