@TheMigz @S0kun Wanted to pull this out of the 5 Scorpion thread to be a direct question. He is truly awful. Is that what was intended or will this be changed soon? Thanks.
Seconded.
I have asked them directly but I havent got an answer either
So to summarise - you have both been ignored so far?

Put this in the wrong thread, so repositioning here.
Devs, he is truly, truly awful. What were you thinking?
Black
If anything the black countdowns should gain you a black AP when they expire, rather than deduct you one!
I understand the attack tile thematically for acid gradually eating away at the target, but creating a strike would make so much more sense for a functional powerset, where all his damage is incredibly weedy.
Green
The green is just bafflingly bad. His 4 star version does something similar with the purple power, but it’s targeted and does multi-hits, so you’re somewhat likely to down the opponent and get a decent rebate if you time it correctly (it’s fun for wave nodes!)
Beverly Hills cop Scorpion’s Green is pretty much always going to be: spend 5 to do one hit of low damage to a random target. No rebate. Only if it cost 3 Green AP would this be even remotely usable as a cheap spammable tick of damage, with the potential for a full rebate if it somehow kills something.
Purple
No idea what to make of his Purple power. It’s got decent situational utility for clearing specials and gaining AP, but the passive is also very situational. If you’re against an opponent that doesn’t have black, purple or green abilities and doesn’t make SAPs it does literally nothing!
General
He also doesn’t make his own strikes to buff up the chip damage from any of his powers, so the opponent can just shrug it all off anyway.
Truly baffling power set.
I can only assume that Boomerang will be an absolute powerhouse boost character and essential partner for Scorpion, otherwise this makes no sense!
I’m sure the stats will be great once he’s ascended to 5.

Relates to this:
So the answer is “Yes, they were intended” but we will also revisit his numbers with the new 5-Star balancing we will use moving forward from the post-July-Rebalance-Batch review. (I can’t put an exact timeline on it, but that’s the plan.)
Wow. Appreciate the answer but that easily makes him the worst 5 Star ever released. That is crazy that those numbers were intended. No revisiting is necessary. He is awful.
This is… Not what I expected to hear. Are we proud of the work that was done on this one? I personally could not stomach it, if I were responsible for this one. Pride in one’s work is needed

This immediately popped into my head as relevent
This is a pretty big miss. He’s not the worst 5
ever released, but he’s the worst in a very long time, and he’s releasing into what’s still a pretty high-powered metagame.
I get wanting to dial back the overall power level, but that hasn’t happened across the board, so this guy looks VERY bad.
Disappointing response from the devs as it might show a lack of understanding the game, but I am proud of them for owning it was intentional. Got to give credit for that. I can applaud taking accountability. (This isn’t sarcasm)
Yeah. Ultimately he would be coming up a bit with a revisit.
When we started creating characters, we didn’t want to be creating new characters that were completely busted from the get-go because we knew we ultimately wanted to open up the metagame rather than just move from busted character to busted character. That did mean trying to create them with an eye to where we wanted the meta to be in future.
But, like we said in our post at the end of last week, we see the balance calculations/witchcraft we have here for 5-Stars right now is too conservative.
This Scorpion-vs-Scorpion comparison is a pretty good example of the weird spot the game is in where the 5-Stars were added without changing much about the 4-Stars and how they were balanced. Sort of really shows how highly the 4-Stars have traditionally been balanced compared to the 5-Stars. :hide-the-pain:
What??? You confidently saying this was intended definitely got me another step closer to quitting.
How?
Why?
Really?
Please explain to us why this is good design philosophy.
I am really shocked.
This is a legitimately scary quote. If THIS is the benchmark for the future, you’re gonna have to do a SERIOUS rethink about how PVE works.
Please take Scorpion and two others of his “intended powerlevel” and try to do any SCL10 CN 4th hit. Please post the results.
There is not a single player in the game, and quote above confirms that yes, this does even include EB, that wants characters to be this dogwater. It’s just plain unfun.. and it messes with the balance when a 5 star character is weaker than the average 3 or 4 star character.
And this is also scary. 4s aren’t balanced TOO HIGH. It’s most of these bottom-tier 5s you’ve been releasing that have been balanced TOO LOW.
Apologies that I was unclear, but this is exactly what I meant by the numbers on 5-Star balancing being “too conservative.”
Regarding creating characters with an eye to a future meta, we had assumed that the balancing numbers we had to work with were appropriate. However, as I have said, they are not.
Again, the new 5-Star Scorpion is being revisited with this in mind. Additionally, 5-Star Ascended versions of the rebalanced characters, and new 5-star characters and Ascensions moving forward will be balanced based on what will be our new 5-Star balancing philosophy and numbers.
It would’ve been dishonest for me to say that where he is now was not intended because it very much was based on the formulas and tools we had. But, to reiterate, we acknowledge that these numbers have been too low and rather than taking random stabs at increased power for 5-Stars, we are reviewing and updating the formulas so that moving forward we have a better baseline for 5-Stars.
Ok about needing to redo the baselines and the formulas and the etc.. all good due diligence.
But do you really not have anyone on the team that can go.. this fails the eyeball test. Unfit to be released.
Do you want some of us to be that eyeball test? Because literally every post on the release info told you his numbers were well well below baseline to the point he was questioned to be a 3 star release..
In short, you guys play it way too safe and now the backlash is from the other end. I get it that balancing toons is nigh impossible at this point since the meta game has been ruined beyond repair, so do what you will. The forumers here are more then willing to provide very frank-en feedback. ![]()
Thanks, this is really good to know. And also good to know you’ve realised the tools you have aren’t doing the required job for assessing power level.
The candid response also does you huge favours in my eyes. We don’t tend to appreciate the corporate glaze that is sometimes put on things, though I appreciate you may be contractually obliged to do that from time to time.
Great response @TheMigz . More like this please ![]()
The revelations in this thread reminds me of an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Y’know the one where Giles, Buffy’s beloved Watcher secretly drugs her so she loses her superpowers and then lets loose a psychotic vampire who had been a serial killer in life, on her 18th birthday, as a fun test. Except Buffy is Scorpion and Sh*tterstar in any event in the game.
