Well, for one, he’s a battering ram, so he should at least have trample.
Traxos’s main problem is that you pay 12 and get… nothing. He needs to triggered in order to attack, and he needs to be triggered every turn, which is not very good value.
He has significant drawbacks, and being a vanilla 8/8 doesn’t make him worth the investment.
Now, if he was a 14/14 with Trample, and his drawback was that he could only attack as long as you control a legendary creature… then sign me up.
Aside from this guy, I have to agree with Squee (he would feel right at a 10-12 mana cost), and the Memorials. It seems like the design team has made it a lot more expensive to ramp up your mana. There are no big gem converters in this set, and the supports of Dominaria provide much less of a cost/benefit ratio than previous sets.
12 mana for an 8/8 mythic that can’t attack unless you cast a heroic spell (unlikely to be able to do that every turn).
and in the same set there’s an 11 for a 9/3 uncommon (demonfrog) that can attack every turn.
That is why Traxos sucks. Also because I just packed him with my 400 crystals and I would’ve been happy with ANY OTHER mythic of that set. Oh I’m not salty, not the slightest bit

If you’re running supports to activate him, do Saga’s count as being “cast” each turn they flip to the next chapter? If not, for the most part you don’t want to reinforce them. The only other Legendary supports are the flip lands from RIX.

Sagas do not count as being cast when they change chapters, but they do trigger on the current chapter if reinforced. So it’s not always a bad thing to do (I used The Eldest Reborn to steal an entire field of creatures by casting 2 on top the one that was already out).
And most of the RIX flip supports are really good, and generate mana once flipped, doubly helping out your deck and casting abilities. Also (unless it was fixed) them flipping counts as another cast, so you get 2 activations.
Look, I’m not saying that Traxos is the best card in the set. It definitely isn’t. But to say that it is garbage is overlooking how it can be utilized effectively. A card shouldn’t have to be a fit for every deck to be good.
I disagree about Squee. Obviously exile takes care of him but he’s literally unkillable otherwise. Useful for sacrifice objectives. Blocks berserkers and can take out or at least weaken a defender and then come back next turn. At the very least he’s a persistent 3 damage every turn.
Been having some fun with Squee. Sarkhan, Elenda, Fiery Conclusion, and Mox Amber seem to be working well, not top tier but fun, threw in Lotus and Thaumatic Compass for extra loyalty. Gets the city’s blessing easy too.
Well then go down the list of everything for 20+ mana that isn’t a “game ender”. And almost all those cards can be taken care of by a removal spell. Not Squee.
It’s not that Squee can’t be useful, he just seems too expensive. Compare him to Despoiler of Souls, an Origins rare. Sure, it drains mana, and doesn’t enable a few things Squee does, but 12 mana for 5 attack makes it much better most of the time. Also, Squee costs 3 cmc in paper, and can be returned from exile. 10-12 cost would make him much more playable in my opinion.

I agree , I pulled Traxos and there is a better creature out there to put in any color deck for power, defense or buffing other creatures. Utterly useless. Don’t know if it’s better than that golem that you needed to match 5 for it to attack. It also would do 7 damage to the first opp. creature.
Bloodtallow Candle. Considering you can’t destroy your own supports, and this one has to die before it does anything it should have maybe two shields. Or activated gems that destroy the support.
Historic spells need to be fixed so that they are treated like historic cards when they are interacted with. Not so much a buff as it is a bug fix but it still needs to be addressed.
Pia and Kiran Nallar would like to have a word about that. Activate 1 red, deals 5 damage to your opponent after destroying the first support you control.
I’ll meet you in the middle and say 15 mana or his current cost stays and reinforcements add +1/+1. My first thought when I got him was “oh look a card I’ll never use” but he’s proving to be more useful than I initially thought.
