If this card has stored 10 Mana and while controlling a modified creature, it does 20 damage instead of “X+2”.

Also, Flame Discharge does not appear to reduce Vanguard shields if X is greater than the number of shields on the vanguard. Not the screenshots below where the opposing Tamiyo VG has 2 shields. Flame Discharge bypassed the shield reduction clause and applied the targeted damage clause.
