Does it kinda feel like a kick to the balls to anyone else when they force you to use arbitrarily picked (actually I’m sure they picked the weaker ones that nobody’s put much ISO into so they have to do so now) heroes?
I get it when there’s a theme, like the Magneto tourney, where one of the three you are using are determined beforehand or something but when you entire available roster is comprised of the parts of your army that you haven’t leveled because you don’t WANT to level them?
Seems kinda like it would be the same as making you wear a blindfold while playing basketball. Is it more difficult? Sure. Is it more fun? Well…
After the rough and exhausting Hulk event, I kinda enjoy the new Heroic. Yes, it forces the players to have a wide roster, and yes, it is a bit of a dick move to leave 2* Thor out in favour of Modern Thor, but the whole tourney just feels oddly refreshing to me. Reminds me a bit of the early stage of the game, when I couldn’t dream of any three-star character, let alone Spiderman, so I fought with what I had. All hail crappy teams again!
Crappy scaling partially carries over from prior events so you have to face 230’s without ANY of the heroes you’d normally use to kill them so “haves” are actually screwed.
don’t worry though… my 1/1/1 modern thor is powered up…
it’s basically a cheap attempt to have people spend HP on Modern Thor covers IMO, unfortunately none of the stuff you listed really applies unless you happen to have 100+ lvl IM40 and psylocke and don’t mind wandering off to heal. So the definition of “haves” is kinda limited…
There are better ways to encourage roster diversification. You could allow the full roster and boost a small subset of underused characters. Or you could create an event with a wider variety of enemies, forcing you to use different tactics for each fight (I think the Simulator event did a good job in that regard). Of course that’s more difficult.
I think an event like this serves primarily as a message:
Get every new character as they are released. If you miss the boat on one, you’ll have a much harder time of getting the next one, and the one after that, and so on. Or in other words, don’t ever take a break from MPQ.
Don’t sell off characters because you WILL need them at some point. So spend that sweet HP on extra cover slots!
There are far too many broken characters out there. Unless you’re boosting people by 100% there’s really not much point to take someone over say Magneto who can take 20 turns in a row while doing very good damage and collecting APs.
I get the roster diversification gimmick going on here, but i see no point in dumping iso onto characters that even buffed still under-perform and become Liabilites when unbuffed. Like cascade-bait Modern Hawkeye. No roster limitations will make up for the overall lacklusterness of some of these characters. Theres a reason noone likes play these guys.
I’m still waiting for a week long dark avengers themed pve event against the heroes. That shift should come at some point since its based on Dark Reign. In regards for the current Heroic, it pretty much denied every character I was in the process of leveling. Oh well, still in the top of my bracket.
I don’t mind forced rosters in principle. It breaks up the Spidey/Patch/Mags monotony you’ve got going in every other event.
HOWEVER, the enemies need to be chosen in kind. Forced rosters DO NOT work with scaling. It’s BS to fight against level 200 enemies with a bunch of 2* characters.
