I have been in the camp who ask for a nerf to gambit, despite him being my highest level character (471). So finally pvp will be opened up again to other 5* players.
However, the nerf is too much. The nerf hammer came down on ALL THREE of his abilities. His black is conditional now (good), his purple only over write a/s/p tiles (ok) and his red was increased to 10 ap! The increase to red ap is the worst. Currently, his red will reap rewards at 14 ap (2 cast of 7). Now it has increased to 20ap (2 cast of 10). That’s a whopping 42% increase.
Lastly, many experienced players have asked for a nerf months ago. This nerf is sooo late. While i appreciate the developers who wants data before deciding, it is way too slow. It shows how poor the developers are in balancing the game.
Glad to see this! While I could beat him without having my own Gambit, I almost always needed boosts and some luck. In general he was just not fun to play against. Outside of facing Gambit I could play any of my 5 stars against other 5 stars and that makes the game fun. Having to constantly skip teams because I wanted to use my Doc Ock or Star Lord (yeah, I like them) made me hate PVP. Now hopefully that’s changed.
I definitely have my concerns with these Gambit changes.
I mean no offense to the devs and testers but it really does ‘feel’ like you rolled out the changes without having a clear enough understanding of 5* tier play.
If you were to go for minimalist changes I think you could have removed the black AP destruction as you did and remove purples ability to override CD’s and he would have been reasonably balanced. These two simple changes open up a ton of teams to start taking him down.
Now I can appreciate the desire to slow him down since generating free AP is problematic. So your decision to change black the way you did is also fine but to severely nerf red as badly as you did while doing so seems misguided.
I will commend you on BUFFING the purple damage in compensation. This change is the only thing that makes Gambit a somewhat compelling character post nerf. I feel as though you’ll have knocked him down too far though.
You took a top 3 five star character in todays meta and dropped him down comfortably in the bottom 10 (out of 25). That’s a big drop and not nearly as subtle as the OML nerf.
I’m disappointed by the changes on paper but I will freely admit that until I get hands on with the character that I may be jumping to conclusions. At the very least I hope Gambit/Bolt is still an option in pvp but ideally a character should go beyond a one trick pony team…especially when people put serious cash into that character for many many months.
I guess we’ll have to wait a month to see if Gambit really is extremely weak now or is finally the balanced character a lot of people hoped to see. Somewhere between the two is my guess.
Can’t really argue with anything else you’ve said (except maybe GR more viable). It was after all around 9 months ago I created a thread asking whether Gambit 1.0 was OP. He was then and he is now. Thankfully he won’t be for much longer.
Could you AT LEAST remove the restrictions on his black preventing allies from firing red/purple. He’s so slow and such a handicap. That minor change could at least open up some teams for him.
Long overdue, a well reasoned and explained set of changes. I would say the gap has been closed to a point where variation might start to happen again.
Agreed on removing the restriction. His Purple will be really powerful, so there aren’t a lot of other Purples I would use. His Red was nerfed very hard and his AP generation is slower and less reliable, so letting him be a Red battery for others seems reasonable.
At the end of the day, you want to upset the status quo, introduce further variety. Don’t think he’s as bad as people think. He will definitely not be top tier anymore, which is the goal. And we’ll not have characters powers being introduced in an attempt to disrupt him specifically.
We’ll be back to a world of strategy and counterstrategy, as opposed to “bring your Gambit to the Gambit party”.
Now that Gambit is going to be basically hot garbage with an over 50% reduction in damage done per turn and a destruction of his utility, will you also now rework Archangel and Captain America who are now even more useless seeing as how they were designed as meta against a poorly designed 5 star?
I will just say thank you for changing the meta. I am really excited to see what sort of meta develops in 5* land because of this.
I will hold off judgement on the nerf but I will also say this PVE events where I don’t have the 5* at a high level or champed will now get a lot more interesting
This is what happens when u are too aggressively asking for a nerf. The dev is pissed off. Next time think thrice before asking for a nerf.
I like Gambit because he’s fast and efficient. He reduces my playing/grinding time. Now the dev takes his speed away. I don’t want to spend too much time on the game anymore . I can’t imagine how much extra time to down mindless ones. With the nerf, all the pve goons and minions are alive again. There’s no way to stop them spamming their cd.
I’m speaking as a player who only own two championed 5* (gambit & Thor). I don’t have much options after the nerf.
For players with lots of 5* championed, they don’t feel much.
When asking for a nerf, u need to put yourselves in others’ shoes. Gambit meta or not is not my concern. I’m considering to leave.
Not impressed at all, if you are going to nerf him that much , the least you could do is allow other characters to use pink and red
I think I’m very likely to sell my champed gambit, you should allow for 1cover to be kept as although I will probably stop using him I would like to keep a single cover for essential when he is next up for story mode
