Getting Really Frustrated With My PvE Situation

After finishing yet another round of PvE and starting on another one and not getting anything useful in my Heroic (Event) Token pulls, I’m starting to really feel the frustration and roadblock in progression.

Let’s say you’re able to place high enough to earn Heroic event Tokens for every sub you participate in; let’s also say you’re able to collect the Heroic event Tokens offered in the climbing rewards as well but not quite enough to collect the final rewards which are usually characters needed for current or future events.

If you’re unlucky with Heroic event Token pulls (that’s been my case) and unless you got yourself an ‘easy’ bracket, it’s extremely difficult to place well enough to earn the character who will be required for the next PvE.

And next time, if you’re unlucky AGAIN, this trend continues… and continues… and continues.

I need to break out of this pattern, but can’t seem to and my Heroic Token pulls are just frustrating me further and further.

Seriously, I’ve pulled enough 2* Daken, Moonstone (black), OBW (any and all), Wolverine (green and yellow), and Thor (yellow) to let me build multiples of these characters and then some.

Since at least 3 PvEs ago, I haven’t seen hide or hair of anyone useful for PvE events in my Heroics - much less key characters used to open locked nodes.

So, I’m stuck with weak characters (not getting covers to build them properly as I keep getting the wrong colors if I DO get covers and incorrect building results in useless abilities), not enough of the Event characters and plenty of everyone else, and none of the ‘open the Node’ characters and on top of it, grinding and willing to ‘work hard’ to try and earn my way up isn’t working, either, and it sucks.

PvE’s my preferred play mode so I’m really hoping to get myself out of this funk but I think at some point, I either fucked over my MMR and scaling or something (or both) because it really feels like I’m in ‘bad luck’ territory and have been stuck here for some time.

I don’t want to quit this game, but the frustration of being stuck in what feels like a field of mud while it’s thunderstorming is getting less and less palatable with every sequential PvE event.

P.S. If any of you remember my problems with getting the 2* covers from the Prologue, I STILL have 2* Thor and Storm covers in my Prologue though at this point, my characters are built to the point they don’t need those covers anymore. I can’t even tell you how many times I grinded the hell out of the Prologue for the covers only to finally give up and manage to eventually collect the covers via tokens or Events.

That only applies to the case where a new character is released since that guy is almost always immediately needed in the next PvE event. In general the required character for PvE events seems relatively random. There’s probably a bias toward the good guys since I don’t recall any of the standard episodes outside of Prodigal Sun featured a bad guy but there doesn’t seem to be a special bias toward which good guy. Well, I think Patch shows up an awful a lot, but he’s been around for a while and he’s awarded at fairly random interval too, so I don’t see anything that’s particularly anti-new players there.

Note that for Heroic Venom, Patch is available at 25K which is definitely reachable without him and then you can do all the Patch essential nodes too. Of course he wouldn’t be all that good but there should be an advantage to have him developed.

I have 13,700 ish points right now and I need 25k for Patch in two days.

I’m going to keep pushing but the Heroic really kicks my ass if it’s a bad board and I’m getting less and less able to finish the majority of the nodes.

I don’t think it’s going to happen, from a realistic point if view.

This only gets more difficult, not easier.

Just pulled a Patch Yellow from event token, already grabbed it from a Token in ISO-8 and had to sell it. Earned my 10-pack same day, pulled Daken Blue and Daredevil Blue. Had to sell them, already earned them previously. Ran through a few Rag Greens before finally getting my last Red. Just got Spidey yellow from daily reward not long ago, sold it. We just had Blind Justice PvP, sold all rewards except 1 blue. You see the pattern going on here? Welcome to the end of the road where heroics give you 250-500 ISO and PvP gets you 500-1500 ISO at top 5.

How many refresh cycles have you played? What level are the enemies at on the last two nodes (Interference and Mary Jane)?

The enemies for me are at level 139 and 156 for those two last nodes on my 4th play through.

Widow, Storm and +3 Blue/Purple boost can take you really far in this event. Really makes short work of most nodes so you don’t have to use health packs. Outside of widow/storm, all I’ve got is Patch at level 50 and covered at 3/1/1. This event hasn’t felt that bad. Interference and Rescue Mary Jane are hard but doable by bringing 50% Blue/Purple damage boosts as well. I just hit the Patch reward two nodes into my 4th play through and didn’t start until late Friday.

I definitely remember my roster plateauing in 2* land and that frustration before breaking through the wall.

I would mind less about my luck with Heroics except for the fact that unless you’re outright buying the covers, the covers for certain events are unavailable and if you weren’t able to score high enough in your bracket, you lose out on THOSE covers, too, and then in future events that follow, the whole, “I don’t have the cover” business keeps following until you’re either able to score high enough somehow or you do good on a pull.

I did 3 playthroughs and got stuck midway through my 4th and have been stuck since.

My enemies in the nodes you mentioned are scaled to 100someodd as well and I have a partially built Torch (with no Black ability), OBW (fully built), CStorm (mostly built), and Hawkeye (fully built).

I was mostly managing okay, but then the scaling kind of went crazy (went from Easy to Hard and skipped over Normal) and then my boards have all been rather unfriendly in the sense that no matter how hard I try to do CD tile control and general board control, CD tiles are just landing where they ought not.

It isn’t so much as a bunch of CD tiles or whatevers are getting to fire; rather, the intensity of say the Pyros’ abilities is seriously damaging and so if I even let one CD tile go unchecked, I’m screwed.

I guess I’m stuck in 2* territory myself right now.
