Graveyard Marshal does not get re-inforced [Investigating]

Playing Liliana, Death’s Majesty in “Boros Legion” event.
I have a lot of creatures in my graveyard and the Graveyard Marshal in play.
Combining the activated gems does remove a creature from the graveyard - but no reinforcement of the Graveyard Marshal is happening.
