How do you like your AI?

Platinum

I like feeling challenged, so prefer the difficult gregg, but can’t imagine having to deal with it like that as a n00b.

Oh right, I want him variable based on tier. I want the Ixalan version for Platinum.

Diamond tier  (the non-existent tier above Platinum)

It’s a fair point. I would qualify my desire for a strong AI by saying I’d like the AI to be capable of playing very strongly, and use that strength where appropriate. But I can see there are match types in which it’d be better for the AI to play at a weaker level (most obviously, the very first encounters a new player has when playing the game. But there are many others.)

Well, I just had the first match were the ai reached enough loyalty to ultimate on turn 4..instead on summoning her Krakens, Kiora used her first on every turn as long as the match went. That’s just stupid

I got beat by Ob Nix and his ultimate yesterday.

I’d like the AI to depend on tier, but hard for platinum.

I’m platinum.

I liked Ixalan Greg – however, I’m noticing most of the people who chose the same as I did are in Platinum. I wish there were a way to distinguish what tier you are in. I still think tiered Greg would be better – we could even give him different names – Bronze Bob, Silver Sam, Gold Pete and Platinum Greg.

Well – maybe I’ll think of that more after some sleep.

Bob can be such a bumbler.

I agree with most of you that the AI should be tiered in difficulty, being smarter as you progress in Mastery. I also think that sometimes the cascades can be a bit ridiculous, but as long as they go both ways I’m ok with that.

I am in Gold…

I opted for this version plus all the abilities, because I feel its match making is closer to a human player that sometimes makes mistake, but I would like it to be able to use everything.
I also think the likelihood for Greg to make mistake could be modulated according to how good a player is performing in an event: the maximum smartness will be used for players that don’t lose any point, but, as soon as you start dropping points, the smartness is tuned down proportionally in terms of a higher likelihood for Greg to choose a wrong match.
So, players that can stay perfect are always facing smartest Greg, while others get some slightly easier matches and players dropping a lot of points will get the easiest Greg.
What do you think?

I wouldn’t change the smartness over tiers because players of different tiers are mixed together in coalition rewards

Edit: grammar

I want an option who let me choose the difficulty.
For example: it can be a good start for a BRAND NEW GAME SECTION - THE ARENA (PVE)
Tier 1 (bronze) with minimum reward / 100 runes
Tier 2 (silver) with better reward / 150 runes and 1 mana crystal
Tier 3 (gold) with better reward / 200 runes and 3 mc
Tier 4 (platinum) with better reward/ 250 runes and 5 mc
Tier 5 (masterpiece) where players can use just mythic and masterpiece cards, AI very strong an rewards verry good

  • 500 runes, 10 mc and one card (min. Uncommon)

Rewards will be just for victory
This section will be like training grounds but against AI
Players will choose before the game the diff of AI

In this way i think the game will more dinamic. Why? Because it wil provide:

  1. difficulties for any type of players, who will cover all those 6 option from this poll.
  2. motivation to level up your deck to compete in higher tier to get better rewards
  3. Players wont wait 24 h to get new 15 mc and 1k runes in training grounds.

Im in platinum (red) and gold in other colors.
Thank you!

I wanted to vote variable because I think variable is best but I voted this level because it is the level I want to play at. Although I read that at this time that Greg knew where the trap gems are form a source I believe. This is not ok to me. If Greg wants to change mana denial prioirtization when trap gems are on the board this is fine. But if Greg keeps mana denial near the top but doesn’t match the mana denial because a trap gem is there, this is 100% cheating.

I would be ok with this super smart Greg but I think that there would be a lot more balancing that would continually need to be done. I am just not sure if we would get that.

I would be, personally, disappointed if they difficulty were ramped up to 11 for platinum with no way to get out of that tier. I don’t want to play against a super hard AI. Ixalan AI was already often smarter at matches than I am, and if it were even harder than that, I can say for certain that I would lose over 75% of my matches. I was already struggling with him as he was before, especially in Training Grounds. I think they’ve hit a good spot for him right now. Not too hard, but also not an absolute moron.

AI difficulty shouldn’t be determined by how many cards you’ve played with as that’s no indication of your personal skill at the match-3 portion of the game. The harder difficulty, I still say, should be an opt-in rather than something just thrown on you. Else you risk losing players who no longer find the game fun and rather just see it as frustrating.

Nah it’s a moron. I’ve seen it on multiple occasions avoid match-3’s of its own color to take an off-color match for no real advantage. At a certain point, it’s like, don’t insult my intelligence. I don’t think it’s a good spot at all.

Well then I must be a moron too, since I stated he plays about on par with me. I miss match threes on my own colors sometimes too.

Gold here. I like the idea that a perfect finish in a coalition event should be fairly remarkable, not standard fare.

This. I would like things adjusted so that (at most) 1 person in the whole game gets a perfect score per event with sometimes NOONE getting it.
Progression should be doable with just a reasonable bit of time committed (so beginners can miss nodes and objectives and lose a few games and still get it) but that the absolute top scores should be very very close to impossible.
But I know that that will cause huge uproar even in some of the people arguing for harder AI, partly because things ARE so very random right now. Maybe if there weren’t such big “number 1” prizes it would help, maybe there should just be “top 50” prizes and number 1 was ONLY was boasting, not for actual rewards.

I’m okay with a not-super-difficult AI. I enjoy a good challenge but every battle feeling like a final-boss gets tiresome and counterproductive to testing out new deck ideas or playing a thematic deck for fun.
