The Golem gave up his spark to close the rift, but was not able to go back to the present. The loss of his Spark made Karn susceptible to Phyresis, so he fled to the center of Mirrodin._ _Venser and a group of planeswalkers and Mirrans found Karn succumbing to the glistening oil dripping from within his hearthstone.
