Lich's Mastery not preventing any damage. [investigating]

  • Black Node

  • No Event supports

  • Garruk Cursed Hunstman

MECHANIC ISSUE

  • Lich’s Mastery prevented NO damage at all.

  • No Prevent Damage evergreen was added to the PW when it came into play.

  • Damage was taken from: Discarding a card via Citadel, from Opponent PW’s ability (Lilliana UbD using ‘Fill the Graves’), and from casting Grim Tutor. - None of these should have caused damage once Lich’s Mastery was out.

This was tested in 2 different matches. Same behavior. Lich’s Mastery did not Prevent Damage but it did still:

  • Discard a card at the end of the turn
  • Dealt 30 damage when destroyed (tested in the first match)

In both matches the Only cards in play on my side:

  • Bolas’ Citadel
  • Skeletal Swarming
  • Crypt of Agadeem
  • Lich’s Mastery

Opponent had only a land in play and 1 token creature in the first match; NO cards in play in the second match.

3rd Test. Same event/node. This time against Vraska. Same deck. Same results. Lich’s Mastery prevented ZERO damage. It is NOT applying the Prevent Damage evergreen to the PW.

After casting Lich’s Mastery at 12 Life - no Evergreen

Oh, and as you can see from the screenshots, the last 10 points I lost were from opponent creatures.

Ok, so this was user error. I failed to be aware that Citadel had changed since last I used it. The Citadel + Mastery combo no longer works unless you can remove Citadel before playing Mastery.
