As I earn new characters, sometimes I want to be able to use them and see them and their abilities used in a match but obviously a newly acquired character is more often a lower level and has to be levelled up over time.

How about some variety with match categories? For example - max level 5 characters for new players, or max 15, max 40 and so on or limit a battle in other ways so that I don’t have to use my top 3 characters, in every match, every time

That sounds neat. There’s already a PVP tournament that comes around that’s kind of the opposite, where every character is maxed out to incredible power level. Playing one where everybody is dropped down to an equal level instead sound interesting.
