A huge % of the problems they are now ostensibly planning to solve are a result of pushing metas up or adding elements which presumably were meant to create demand for resources and items, and not worrying about the aftereffects because who ever knows how long a mobile game will go on? And figuring the next guys can worry about that (maybe in some cases Demiurge thought the next guys were themselves in a year, lol).
Adding meta characters we told them would be a problem.
Modifying characters sometimes to make them meta
Adding supports to PVP
Adding 6s when no design space was left at the top of the game
A game like this relies on people wanting things they will spend on, duh. I mean they should probably have been more cautious about things like how much AP you can get for free from a support (stop at 4, make people use boosts to get to 6, defense is much diminished, you can leave powers at 6 or 7).
Taking supports out is both necessary and yet a huge hit to characters with higher AP costs; presumably some aspect of the costs of newer toons is designed around assuming there is some AP available at the start from supports. Hence maybe an impossibility without coincidentally nerfing the usage of a lot of characters.
To put all this another way there is hole and they kept digging themselves into it with power creep and AP availability and put a swimming pool in it and the new guys are like “welp I guess we gotta fill up this pool so the kids might sometimes play on the swingset over there even though they love swimming more.”
