Nahiri's Wrath ignores hexproof?

So, I was playing as Kiora in quick battle against a Koth and had my Sphinx of the Final Word out which is supposed to give all my creatures hexproof. You know, cannot be targeted by enemy spells or abilities. Nahiri’s Wrath is a spell. So why was he able to cast it and kill my hexproof creatures? I could understand if my planeswalker would have taken the 6 damage, but my creatures should have been protected. What’s the point of having hexproof if it doesn’t work?

Anything that affects “all creatures” isn’t targeting specific creatures. Nahiri’s Wrath is working as intended in your scenario.

To add onto Plastic’s answer:

This is a very specific phrase.

What it means is this: if the enemy spell or ability requires a target, this creature cannot be targeted.

Otherwise, it’s open season.
