New Mechanic Spotlight - Leader (7/26/18)

Hi Everyone,

With the recent Leader mechanic added in Dominaria, the team wanted to take some time to dive into a discussion about this new feature, and explain what drove them to create this mechanic and why.

Here’s a great idea @Oktagon_Daiane and @Hibernum_JC how about you do a new release that lets us play 4 creatures? It would easily support this in the UI and would open up a whole new world of go-wide strategies and new deck ideas. Leader is fine but it is working around an artificially imposed limit that really makes no sense.

Unfortunately that’s a huge undertaking Grizzo and would cause love/hate issues in people and not bring in any revenue. Better they try to do things like this to make the most of how things are.

Leader and reinforcements is better than things were and I’m sure they can try other stuff. but 4 creatures is unfortunately way too massive to be likely.

(PS: Give Huatli’s mount leader:dinosaur!)

This would be a nice touch, and would make sense with the mechanic (basically works that way already, just requires an extra battlefield slot for the tokens :stuck_out_tongue: ).

Angel Leader is the best Leader I’ve seen in this game. Thank you.

I can’t say I’m too impressed with Leader… reducing your creatures down to a single slot may save you a bit of room on the board, but what it definitely does is put all your eggs into one basket so they can be taken out by a single removal spell. Most Leaders speed up your game a little at the expense of leaving you vulnerable to a blowout by an enemy cascade.
