Anyone else think Nissa’s mana gain should bit a little bit higher? I mean, she is the archetypal “ramp” Planeswalker in the game, after all. She was my first PW to 60, and after leaving her behind a few months ago to work on some of the newer PWs, I came back to her recently and found her mana gain really lackluster.
It’s not just that her mana gain is low compared to some of the other “ramp-ish” PWs like Koth, but considering she’s mono-color and she doesn’t benefit from many dual-color cards (compared to other PWs), she’s still really reliant on pure green.
I think her mana profile should be changed to Green (5) and Black (-2). Rest would stay the same. This would be a change of Green +2 and Black -2. It’s not a HUGE increase to her primary color like Koth, but it’s enough to make a substantial difference. And I think -2 Black would be a good trade-off, since it fits with the lore and tempers the gameplay buff.
I dunno, after dusting her off and improving my old deck to include some newer cards (and it’s a strong deck), she feels kinda lackluster because of how reliant she is on pure Green. Maybe it’s just because after a lot of these new PWs, a standard 6-mana collection from a 3-match doesn’t feel like anything special. She just feels slower than she should for the original ramp archetype.
You can spend half or more of your deck on green mana conversion spells and supports, but there just aren’t enough card slots to make that viable in a fun way, IMO (unless you’re lucky enough have to have a couple of her OP-ish Mythic creatures). Otherwise, it’ll be a long game that relies mostly on mana production, which becomes secondary to getting out some standard creatures like Dwynen, Sage of Ancient Lore, Outland Colossus, Gaea’s Revenge, etc… and then it’s just a slug-fest back-and-forth, with the occasional Nature’s Gift buff (which you’re lucky to cast in the first place, because most of the time with Nissa you’re constantly relying on spamming Nature’s Bounty as much as possible).
Any thoughts?
