It makes no practical sense for the devs to respond to what’s going on in the forums. Not sure why we the players think otherwise.
The changes that have been made are to generate more revenue. Bottomline is they have a golden goose and are squeezing it for all it’s worth. They are a mobile app company built to make money plain and simple and just Because the existing players don’t like the changes isn’t enough of a reason except maybe if they are trying to purge the players. More on that later.
If they do respond it will seem weak, defensive and indecisive.
Final thought on this is that they are making these changes to purge the top of the current player base and bring in new blood. Seriously we are bloated ticks on this dying dog and they have to get rid of us.
Just some thoughts since I have time while traveling!
Pretty sure they aren’t happy that their game rating has plummeted, some of their whales stopped spending, or that we call their home office in LA and leave a voicemail to their CEO.
It is probable that D3 understands full well that these changes are going to go over very poorly with the vast majority of existing, long established players and that many of you/us will leave the game.
If you have something, and then it gets taken away you will feel resentment.
We have also noticed that these changes affect new players adversely, as it is now much more difficult (translation: expen$ive) to catch up to established players.
D3 likely expects to lose a large portion of the established player base, as they push the game in a direction that will hopefully bring in more revenue for them long-term, and they are banking on a new/future player base that never experienced the salad days of better drop-rates, or an easier path to obtaining mythics, etc… These players will not feel the sting of a devaluation of their currency as we have just done.
In fairness to D3, they are licensing this product from WotC, and that is likely costing them through the nose. They have evaluated their business model, tweaked the game economy and mechanics accordingly, and will likely see through this painful transition and loss of established players.
Hey, whats going on here?! These seem to be informed, reasoned opinions, i’m not used to reading such things.
This is pretty much the best guess as to what the plan is moving forward. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was revealed that D3 got the licence solely off the back of the official WotC magic 2015 app doing so poorly.
