on transparency

I’m not going to clutter the Q&A thread, because it’s not really a question. However, there have been some debates about the release of internal data.

They’re an RPG company and not a computer company, but I think a lot of game companies in general could stand to take a lesson or five from Evil Hat Productions about transparency and business. EHP is truly stellar at providing fans insight into what’s happening and (often) why. A sample previous “State of the Hat” post is here, for reference.

that is really good, detailed, and insightful thumbs up.

Transparency is great, but once you get a multinational publisher into the mix and Marvel gazing down from the mothership things get a little more complicated. There are business and legal reasons why a lot of companies don’t engage in this kind of open discourse, though as a consumer it’s quite lovely when they do. When done properly it can engender a lot of positive feelings which may or may not translate into better sales. There’s no doubt that more communication and transparency around here would be a very good thing, but it’s unlikely you’re ever going to see the kind displayed in that link.

No arguments about not getting to that level, but I can point it out as a model.
