Just a random thought, but what if we returned the Origins Planeswalkers back to their original 6 cost for their first abilities. It wouldn’t be a huge change, and it would be more annoying to play against, but it would definitely make them useful again in the sped-up meta. There are some matches, especially with enraged, where I win or lose before even getting the ability charged (usually lose though, lets be real). The best part is you don’t have to mess with the other abilities or stats (I mean, better mana gain would be nice, but thats never happening)
I still use Nissa and Gideon. But they aren’t nearly as competitive as their later versions or the dual colors (mainly because of the mana gains, but also because their abilities aren’t nearly as powerful). I’d love to see the origins walkers get a boost so I can use them consistently in events I actually care about
The idea of upgrading the Origins planeswalkers has been thrown around before. Myself and @AngelForge have threads about this (you can check them out though the links in my signature) but the changes we suggested were much more aggressive than what @Mburn7 proposes.
I do think they need a buff especially in mana gains and I think it would really benefit new players.
I remember seeing those ideas and liking them, but I figured they’d be too aggressive for the devs to actually implement. My idea here was just to bring them back to their old power level which was OP then but probably fairly balanced now.
and @hawkyh1 yes, originally most of the Origins walkers had a 6 cost on their first abilities (I think Chandra’s was even 3 at one point) but they were nerfed because of AI spamming (same reson Kiora’s first was changed from 6 to 9)
Then instead of 6, just compromise and make them 7 or 8. It’s still slightly more efficient than a 9, which could take forever if there aren’t any cascades.
I do believe you have been brain warped @shteev. With comments like that I think you could have a bright future within the hallowed halls of greed known as D3/Hibernum.
In all seriousness though, what I had proposed was a one time upgrade of the Origins five at a cost.
Much like purchasing additional deck slots once your planeswalkers reach level 60, I would like to be able to upgrade the Origins walkers, at a cost of 200-250 crystals, once they reach level 60.
Ok, let me play D3 Producer for a moment. I look at your suggestion and I implement it as such: Origins walkers have no changes except they are capped at Level 50 until you spend 100 crystals to unlock the top cap of 60. Hell, why stop there? Add a new level cap of 70 to all walkers but it costs 200 crystals to unlock the new cap per walker.
