Numerous users who have reached Rank 5 with a favorite support cannot un-favorite them and the shards they get keep going towards it.
Until the devs fix this you should make sure you un-favorite once you have enough shards to rank it up. (or before you level it up).
No fix is known on the user side as of yet, that I am aware of.
Good to know. My next support is almost ready to hit R5.
When did this happen?
Last month I got Eros’s Arrow to R5 via shards in the Boss event and as soon as I leveled up the support to R5, the favorite status was automatically removed (I checked which support I had favorited and it showed none).
I bet what’s happened is they haven’t leveled up the support to R5 so the auto-removal of the favorite status isn’t being done.

If I could get IGNs, that would help us replicate it by mirroring an account and testing. Otherwise, we’ve added some additional failsafes to prevent any potential instance of this in our upcoming releases.
I just got my helicarrier to rank 5. It wouldn’t let me unfavorite it, but after I ranked and leveled it up I was able to choose a new favorite, so no issue with this for me.

I can’t unfavorite my leveled up and ranked up 5* Victorious. All shards dedicated to my Victorious are halfed before given to my other favorite. I pay double toll.
I was also able to unfavorite before ranking up my lvl 5 - however, despite me verifying that it was no longer showing as favorited in the filter and then choosing a different favorite - the system kept the lvl5 favorited and SPLIT the next shard reward between the 2 supports.
Had 5ish popups for the shards 1-3 at a time . . . it was bizarre.
So . . . that’s gonna be an issue for the Boss shard rewards.
