Not sure what you mean by NPC (defensive maybe?), but for people that retaliate, it’s the team you used to beat them with (that exact team, levels, covers and all). Everyone else sees the team you last won with, therefore you can tank (climb with your best team, then beat a weak team with your weak team for people to devour) and scare (climb with your fastest team, then win with your scariest possible team however slow/bad/suicidal on offense (often includes Hulk, BP, LT, Sentry, Daken, Hood).

To clarify; You mean to use a weaker team that is good at winning fast to rank up then your last play use a good scare team like hulk daken etc?

No! You don’t usually tank and scare in the same push. To tank, you need to score at least some points and then win with the weakest possible team that you can still win with, preferably against a super-weak seed team. If you don’t have seeds left, cStorm/MMN indeed are a good ‘weak’ team that is still strong enough to beat many others on offense, and definitely strong enough to beat all other 2* teams.
As for scaring, I meant that you can climb with whatever team you want, but it’s usually not weak. On the contrary, it’s your fastest/strongest team which can be weak on defense, though (lack of health, AI foolproof abilities). Then you defeat someone with your best defensive team and leave at that, and hope for not losing 500 points overnight.
