I’m not much of a PvPer but I’ve played enough of a couple of PvPs to get the 50 support shards for supports that I don’t have. Shouldn’t that unlock the 1* support? I don’t have Thanos-Copter unlocked, but I played enough Kang to get the 50 shards. I don’t see where to unlock it, though. Under supports, it’s still greyed out showing what it looks like at level 250/250.
What am I missing? Same with Leapfrog–I should have 50 shards but they show up nowhere.
Pretty sure you can’t unlock a support with shards only. You have to have pulled at least rank 1.

I’m not sure if that’s the case or not. The way I understood it is that you could not favorite a support you didn’t have unlocked to gain shards and unlock it. Since we’re talking about earned shards I would think once you hit whatever initial threshold, it would become unlockable.
They did this so players could not unlock the stones via shards.

But then have given away 3 so far and almost a 4th one.
They “gave” those away for the community hitting a goal they set.
This made way more sense when they were treating them as trophies (for whoever was willing to hop the most and pretend to be the friendliest for a full season), because the actual supports are kinda bad (except for the purple one, sorta).
I think it’s probably safe to undo it now though. I’d way rather use one of the supports that’s “win the game turn0” than any of the infinity stones, and I bet anybody who wanted the trophies --and could realistically win them – already has them all by now.
A reason to hold back unlocking via shards for non-Stones is that many (most) people playing don’t have all the supports and the devs would like to sell supports to people, and sometimes we’ll see a bundle with a R1 of whatever. Or a chain of the new one.
If you can’t just unlock them with shards it creates a demand/reason for people to buy the new offering, or be stuck waiting for RNG to go in their favor.
Also there are older supports they offer sometimes and if you want one and can’ lt just use shards you might buy that offer.
Plenty of players doing catch-up on just unlocking them.

Well, whatever the reason for it, at least I don’t have any incentive to PvP (which I don’t enjoy), so there’s that.
