“Whenever you cast your first spell each turn, reveal the top card of your library. If it’s a nonland card with converted mana cost less than that spell’s, you may cast it without paying its mana cost. If you don’t cast the revealed card, put it into your hand.”
In MTGPQ:
“When you cast a spell, support or creature. Fetch the next card in your library.”
In the card version you get to play the next card for free as long as it’s lower costed than the original. In MTGPQ it fetches a card, which is worse than drawing a card. Seems like a huge oversight, because currently it’s awful in MTGPQ and is a much much worse version of a rare in Jori En, Ruin Diver.
It’s literally in the running for the worst mythic in the game when it’s paper version is really strong.
And what insane combos could this card possibly generate in its current state? Fetch is just card draw without the usual synergies of card draw. There is no current mechanic in synergy with fetch.
Fertile Thicket, natural connection, animist awakening etc. Cheap cards that can conceivably chain and ramp more.
You’ve got it backwards. Getting more cards is a powerful mechanic on it’s own. Having something that depends on drawing is a bonus, but not necessary for infinite fetches to become ridiculous given the right situation. We had two such problems in soi alone. Harness the storm and seasons past.
I don’t have it yet, but I’m excited by the possibilities. It might not work out, but I think there’s a decent chance you guys will be back in 2 weeks demanding they fix the op.
There are other cards that can make a lot better use of fertile thicket, nissa pilgrimage, AA and other cheap spells… . It was all the rage in the early days of kiora with noyan dar.
Drawing card is a powerful mechanic but there are other cards that do it better at lower rarety without costing 17 mana and wasting a creature spot .
This is nowhere within the miles of Harness and SP. With those 2 you knew which cards you were getting back. And there was a really good chance of filling them up with mana during the process.
No one is ever going to complain about this worthless excuse of a mythic being OP in its current state. Good luck creating “infinite combos”. If someone has a brilliant idea about the use of this card please enlighten. Because i pulled 2 of these in the same pack… while i had none of the mythics from the new set.
To those that think the fetch happens before the effects of gen converters or other ways to get mana you are wrong. This card does not help you make big combos. I have it and it’s a horrible card right now.
Be prepared to be greatly disappointed. They nerfed the card before it could be of any use and now will not see the light of day. I don’t even want to finish mastering the card, it’s such a troll of a card.
I’ve tried it as a replacement to harness, doesn’t work because it doesn’t give any mana. I’ve tried it with a harness deck, doesn’t work because fetching creatures and supports gets in the way, tried it with tokens just in case of discard for Olivia doesn’t work. The only use is if you’re using a discard deck to replace the discarded card but it’s way too expensive to use for such niche use and is a creature so it can be easily removed.
I pulled one, added it to my Kiora deck, and it is faster early game, and becomes pretty absurd after about turn 5-6. Seems to pretty much hose anything with Fabricate, Investigate (maybe here, as they get destroyed, so they draw, but if their hand is full, total bust for them), or anything that cares about how many supports there are in play. My hand is always full. It plays out 3-8 cards a turn from my hand.
