Seriously, my Google Play account is used to log in, why is this not used to sync my data in steady of Facebook.

Unfortunately your google account is probably almost as littered with the same headline catching stuff as FB. 
That said, fewer caches of data are a good thing.
The damage is done, FB and Google already know everything and can bomb our houses from orbit if they like, just shrug and move on!
In some ways, gmail plus search history plus maps plus YouTube plus everything you’ve done on your phone is a scarier cache of data than what I’ve personally done with Facebook… Then again, the facebook thing included things my “friends” did, and lots of those folks, not so smart…

At least provide options other than only Facebook. Google, twitter…
I think just a unique logon for MtG:PQ would be my option of choice (like logging into the forums here)
The problem with smaller companies implementing their own logins is that they are far far less secure and prone to being hacked.
You are better off google or FB controlling all your logins with good security but deliberately giving up some privacy to them then you are having 100 different small companies that at least one will be hacked which will lead to them getting into all your others accounts and having all your information too. At least with FB and Google public pressure works slightly for now (effectively they are new countries or something rather than companies), but FB and Google aren’t going to blackmail you or find your house or track down your gran or poison your prescriptions by changing them which are the things that hackers that steal your data from small company run auth processes will do.
It’s BAD when small companies try and do security.
Stop using the same password for all your accounts, or get yourself a password manager.

Yuck. Social media blows. If not for all of myself mobile gamers using it for syncing I would just get rid of it
we’ve been trying to get rid of FB for a while even before the recent incident. I had to open a FB for this game only.
For me I want the game to sync with our existing Google accounts.

I think Google and Apple accounts are actually very different from one another. With Google and Facebook, you are the product, with Apple, you are at least theoretically the customer, as they’re not ad-driven.
I do, but I have to do “tech support” for family members and sure I set it up for them too, but what about people who don’t know better who are a much higher percentage of people than are here?
