New Sets

This release brings two new sets: Morningtide (MOR) and Eventide (EVE). As the Aurora flickers in Lorwyn-Shadowmoor, so do the cards: Morningtide and Eventide come in packs that may contain cards from both sets, noted as MEV.

New Mechanics

Chroma

Tex_Icon_Evergreen chroma white Tex_Icon_Evergreen chroma blue Tex_Icon_Evergreen chroma black Tex_Icon_Evergreen chroma red Tex_Icon_Evergreen chroma green

Chroma is a numbered evergreen. Chroma tracks the number of gem swaps of a specific color performed by a player during the match, and its value is associated with each player.

Chroma does not count cascades generated after the swap or conversions and transformations caused by spells, supports, or abilities. Cards with Chroma reflect the player’s current accumulated Chroma count. Chroma is always counted from the beginning of the match. A card reflects the Chroma count regardless of where it is during the match.

Kinship

When a card with the Kinship ability is on the battlefield, if the first card you draw has a subtype that matches this Kinship ability, it will trigger the effect described on the card. Kinship will only trigger if it is the first card drawn during the player’s turn.

Prowl

Tex_Icon_Evergreen Prowl

Prowl will trigger at the end of your turn. When a card with Prowl is in the player’s hand, and they control a creature on the battlefield that shares a creature subtype with the card with Prowl, that card will gain 5 mana.

Retrace

Tex_Icon_Evergreen Retrace

When a land is exiled from the player’s hand, the most recent card in the graveyard with retrace returns to its hand. Retrace works with any type of exile action, and it only works in the controller’s turn

New Planeswalkers

Ashling, the Extinguisher

As Lorwyn transformed into Shadowmoor, so did Ashling transform into the Extinguisher, the elemental power inside her boiling and raging against everything and everyone who ever wronged her. Ashling was one of the few beings that retained their memories during The Great Aurora. Also known as the Destroyer, Ashling left destruction in her wake and would only be stopped by the combined power of Maralen, Brigid, Sygg, and the Source of the Wanderbrine elemental.

Ashling’s new powers allow you to:

  • Gains gem conversion if attacked earlier.
  • Deal damage to creatures and keep reinforcements in check.
  • Exile the graveyard and deal damage to the opponent based on creatures in the opponent’s exile.

Sapling of Colfenor

The Sapling was born from the cone of Colfenor, planted by Rhys in the ashes of the Murmuring Bosk. After Colfenor’s death, Rhys was surprised to see that The Sapling was not only growing, but already fully grown, awakened and risen, waiting for him. The offspring of Colfenor, together with Brigid, Ashling, and Marelen, retained their memory of their time in Lorwyn during The Great Aurora. With its memory intact, Colfenor’s original plan was still in motion, and Oona’s fall was near.

Changes and Fixes

Cards and Planeswalkers

  • Fixed: The description of Oona, Queen of Fae’s first ability, Memory Safeguards, being visually incorrect. The ability functioned correctly, according to the documentation.
  • Fixed: A softlock occurring when a board-cleaning effect triggers a draw effect from a destroyed support (e.g. Cryptex).
  • Fixed: Effects that watch for Blight gems being cleared not triggering from Card effects that clear these Gems. Affected Cards:
    • Perfect Intimidation
    • Loch Mare
    • Dread Tiller
  • Fixed: Cards with Overflow not properly pausing gameplay when triggered.
  • Fixed: Kithkeeper creating a random colored countdown Gem instead of an activated White Gem.
  • Fixed: A softlock occurring when Leyline of the Guildpact interacts with Overflow cards and board-cleaning effects.
  • Fixed: Drove of Elves’s reinforcements resetting the Devotion count on its buff effect.
  • Changed: The hint for Clash.
    • Before: “Clash is an Evergreen that can be applied to any type of card. Clash will have a requisite to trigger, then when it triggers, it reveals the top card of the deck of both players. If the card revealed by the owner of the Clash effect has a higher mana cost, it’s considered he ‘wins the clash’, and the effect linked to that Clash trigger resolves.”
    • After: “When the condition to Clash is met, both players reveal the top card of their deck. If the owner of the Clash effect reveals the higher mana cost card, they win the clash and resolve its Clash effect.”
  • Changed: The hint for Evoke.
    • Before: “When a card with Evoke is exiled from hand with full mana, all of it’s “When this creature enters the battlefield” and “When this creature leaves the battlefield” effects triggers. Cards exiled using the Evoke evergreen are sent to the graveyard after their effects resolve.”
    • After: “Cards with Evoke are drawn disabled. When they are exiled with full mana from your hand, trigger all the exiled card’s enter and leave the battlefield effects, and then the card is moved from exile to its owner’s graveyard.”

Events

  • Fixed: The Objective Identity in Night of the Hunt counting all matches instead of matches by swap only.
