What do you think we’ll face in the new Zeal? Here are some predictions of mine:
A Djeru deck that has a 0 loyalty ability giving its first creature +6/+6
A Crested Sunmare deck that has a cheap loyalty ability gaining life
Hazoret’s Undying Fury boss chaining Inferno Jets
An Hour of Glory/Promise/Revelation deck (basically, just look at the nonlootable cards)
My coalitionmates checked in as well:
from Misery, an Oketra’s Last Mercy boss with a speed win objective
from Shteev, “Solemnity”. Just “Solemnity.”
from Duskpaladin, Omniscience + Overwhelming Splendor for the double whammy
I’d love to see what other ideas people can come up with.
So I just tried it on 3.3 and while I was doing okay, suddenly I got a cascade of “tinykitty you” and had multiple spells thrown at me that reduced my Dovin from 114 to 34 in one go. That’s crazy.. Just.. wow.. All I can say is make sure you store up support killers if you can, because Nicol-ole-boy loves him some Impending Doom…
I was surprised that on the first run, nothing was quite as over the top as Zeal. It’s great not to have an “under X life” objective this go-around, and I’m glad they seem to have abandoned speed objectives.
Someone in my coalition beat 3.3 without support destruction, but I feel like they got very lucky. Lifegain and support destruction are the name of the game in 3.3, and forced discard is also a solid idea.
Ironically, this is the one time Counterspell has a chance of being good, and I felt like infinite oblivion was way more efficient against Bolas.
Castout seems pointless on 3.3. I only encountered 1 creature first try with Dovin and got annihilated by massive cascade. Second try I used Nissa 3 and annihilated him before he really had a chance to do anything. Didn’t see one creature the second time.
spells
unholy hunger(use any kill card)
unburden
tidy conclusion(use any kill card)
supports
faith of the devoted
aetherflux reservoir
shadows of the past
fetid pools(cycled, never needed to cast it)
canyon slough(cycled, never needed to cast it)
irrigated farmland(cycled, never needed to cast it)
pact of negation(probably get away with replacing
with another kill card)
I thought I needed the gem convertors to get to his
3rd ability quickly and then race to the finish line.
just didn’t happen that way. I kept charged kill cards
in hand, it took ages to win by mostly causing damage
from ob nix’s 3rd ability.
