If you’ve stolen a creature with Welcome to the fold, (or Exert influence presumably) it gets returned to Your hand. It wouldn’t work this way in paper…
As much as many of us refer to paper, this game is a mutation of MtG. Always best to assume the rules that we’re used to don’t apply here.
