Looks like they’re actually giving the AI different levels for different circumstances, which is even better than I expected! The impression I got from Brigby’s comment was that the AI would be better the higher the opponent’s level as a general rule. He was talking about story mode and PvE events specifically though, PvP could be different.
As I said earlier, I think handing out particular mythics as prizes can be fine depending on the mythic. If they keep the Immortal Sun similar to the paper card it’ll give a minor boost to your creatures and spellcasting and prevent both players from using their Planeswalker’s abilities. I think that would be more of an interesting shift in strategy than a game-breaker, so it would be fine as an event prize. Vanquisher’s Banner and Fraying Sanity are both mythic as well, and neither would be a huge problem if they were given out as event prizes (I have both, and use neither, that’s why I chose then as examples. There’s plenty more non-Hour of Devastation mythics). I think giving out a random mythic from a given set is much more likely to be problematic.
It’s not the end of the world if they put one card up as a prize once in a while. Its a nice gesture. You just have to compare the level of excitement and activity among players for playing an event that has an exclusive reward versus an event that doesnt, to see what it does for the game. But people are making it sound like being able to win exclusive prizes in this game is some sort of crime against newer players.
If we are doing away with mythic prizes do away with them for good. No more legacy mythics either.
“Can we have some mythic prizes please? Ugh, but you are ruining the game by giving us these ones, although it’s absolutely horrible of you if you stop giving us those ones”
I haven’t heard anyone complain about lack of mythics or cry for their return as rewards for top 10 coalitions, it’s a neat throwback in Avacyns Madness, but the playerbase has grown so much that top 100 is no small feat anymore. as I said earlier, I really really hope that The Immortal Sun is cosmetic, and doesn’t have gameplay impact, since otherwise it could potentially put the vast majority of the playerbase at a disadvantage.
Oh they have complained. It comes up periodically whenever prizes are mentioned and usually by the old guard.
What it does isn’t exactly cosmetic:
Shutting down both Planeswalker abilities.
Draw an additional card during your draw step
All of your spells cost 1 less *** UPDATED 03/13/18 *** Card in PQ states “All of your spells cost 2 less”
All of your creatures get +1/+1
For what I estimate to be 10 mana support but likely cheaper because it is an exclusive… so maybe 7 or 8 mana.
That’s a very nice support regardless.
My issue is that Hibernium did this before and that led to a huge power gap amongst the elite and those that weren’t. A little over a year ago there were many posts covering this very issue and the forums were very divided. Those that were privy to such prizes to us to just “tinykitty up, buttercup” those that weren’t were livid because there was nothing we really could do to partake in a limited prize pool event unless someone dropped their spot and another fillled it within the top ten. In short, an exclusive for only the exclusive. Espwcially so if we use a 3000 coalition pool. Then to add insult to the injury, they play the event again and all get 750 orbs for a dupe if they replay within the 1st 30 days. 500 after. I would very much prefer that they got more card packs or just straight up 500 orbs for a standard event. If this was legacy, then yes! This would be fantastic.
This. I can’t get excited about something I have zero chance of getting. My reaction upon reading that a very small number of players will get an extremely rare card was whoop-de-doo. Doesnt make me excited to play the event.
Yes yes yes! Can we in fact remove all ranked prizes from all events, and just give everyone the same rewards? I think it’s the only way to be fair. Otherwise players who perform better at the game will be rewarded for doing so, which I don’t think anyone wants.
Spot on and I am of the same mind as you about this.
This is a collection based game. There are always going to be players with advantage over others. I opened a masterpiece sword from an elite pack a while ago. What an absolute atrocity against the vast majority of players who did not get that sword.
Lets end all aspects of competition from events and bring the everybody-wins culture to the game because players feel bad about not having performed as well as the more competitive ones.
Hmm, it’s certainly not necessary to give everyone the same rewards. Not sure why players pointing out the problem of an uber exclusive card leads other players to conclude that all rewards should be equal. Notice no one complained about the current reward system, only that an extremely rare card will be available to an incredibly small population of people. I’m assuming you’ll be one of the beneficiaries, perhaps? Congrats and enjoy.
Everyone can open a purple pack given time and money. Not everyone has a chance at an exclusive card b/c they aren’t part of an exclusive coalition. Not the same thing at all. Enjoy your new card, though!
