So in my newb days, I acquired and levelled Silver Surfer to 285.
He’s sitting at 2-3-0, I don’t use him, and based on conversations around my alliance, I suspect he’s killing my scaling still. Right now, the CP node comes in at level 319.
After him I have 5 4* champs between 270 and 273 and with recent changes don’t expect to exceed 275-280 ever.
My basic question is: will my scaling drop at all by selling my overrated character?
I doubt selling him will affect your scaling much, if at all. 285 really isn’t that much higher than your champed 4s.
Looking at my own CP node, it comes in at 322 with 16 champed 4s with my highest being a level 280 Cyclops.
Do you have most three-stars championed? If so, a single fivestar should not have much effect on your scaling.
Also, the developers announced they are working on a system where PvE scaling is mostly based on your chosen SCL, that might make things easier for you too once it launches.

No selling Silver Surfer won’t help you’re scaling I have seven 4* champions and my highest node is 320 non of my 5* are leveled.
Things will get better as you champion the right 4*
If you need another opinion: no, selling Surfer will do nothing for you. If you have multiple 4* championed you are where you are supposed to be in the current scaling model. Hang on to him (5 covers is not nothing) as there will be change of the PvE scaling system in the spring (so we are looking for a wait time of 2 weeks to 3 months).
