Thanks Steve. I decided to try 3.1 one last time with Dovin and cycling seems the way to go (albeit it is incredibly slow and tedious). Sphinx is not necessary with Cast Out though.
Amusingly, I beat 3.2 on the first try with this set up, despite the fact that I tired out Oketra’s Attendant for the first time, and didn’t realise that it’s broken to the point where cycling it does literally nothing. Not sure if 3.2 has any support removal in his deck, but he wouldn’t have been able to cast it, even if he did.
PRO-TIP: To avoid having to outrace your opponent with Tutelage every single turn, try casting Censor every now and again.
Goddamn it cycling is boring to play, tho. Maybe it would be a little less tedious if I had a Drake Haven? How are y’all Draven players finding cycling?
No, I think my point is pretty clear, actually. Formulator there is saying that you’d need a deck based on mythics to beat Exquisite Archangel. You, on the other hand, seem to be implying that you can do it with a deck with nothing more rare than the humble Electrostatic Pummeler. Why not post the deck so we can see for ourselves just how much raw power you needed in it to deal all that damage in 4 turns.
Formulator was implying JC needed the very broken nigh infinite turn Aether Heart to win in 4 turns. He mentioned literally one mythic. The heart. He mentions nothing about other mythics, but specifically talks about the loop.
I won’t say it trivialises battles (can still get a bad hand or an opponent with tons of support removal), but… Drake Haven + New Perspectives with Tezzeret, DH/NP with Saheeli, DH/NP with Kiora, DH/NP with Dovin Baan… For me, Dovin is now my preferred PW in Standard:
Creatures:
Shimmerscale Drake
Supports:
Drake Haven
New Perspectives
Fetid Pools
Cast Out
Sphinx’s Tutelage
Spells:
Floodwaters
Forsake the Worldly
Renewed Faith
Compelling Argument
Absurd ramping of drake tokens, support destruction, creature lockdown, easy cycling of cards to find the ones you need, and comparatively easy to obtain since there’re only two essential rares and no mythics.
