For those who don’t know him, Supporticus was a soldier who lived in ancient Roman times and became a legendary MPQ player through the effective use of supports. Channeling my inner Supporticus, I decided to start looking at some key teams and talking through the best support setups for each. My answer may be different than yours, because of the coverage or level of my characters, the star ranking and level of my supports, my play style, or just in general because…we see the world differently! Diversity is a wonderful thing. I welcome opposing views but hope by simply starting this thread, others will think and share and we will all learn and grow in our MPQ experience. Enough with the pontificating…on to battle!
The core team:
Center: 4 * Juggernaut 5/5/3 lvl 274
Left: 4* Rocket & Groot 5/5/3 lvl 296
Right: 5* Kitty Pryde 1/1/2 lvl 295
This is a great team, in no small part because Juggy has the X-Men tag which lowers the threshold on Kitty’s “Phase and Conquer”. This team has two objectives: we want Juggy to tank to trigger “Collateral” to cause damage to the entire enemy team, and we want to protect and grow those strike tiles so the Collateral damage is maximized.
Supports:
First a word: I have every support in the game except I have none of the infinity stones. All of the supports are at the max level based on the star version I have except where indicated.
In thinking of supports, I looked at a few options:
- Increase the number of colors that Juggy tanks, increasing the odds of triggering Collateral each turn
- Find a support that adds more strike tiles
- Find a support that boosts strike tiles
- Find a support that fortifies strike tiles
In looking this over, I ended up effectively ruling out option 2, because given the length of battles and the cap on the number of strike tiles Kitty can boost, I found it more effective to have fewer but higher value strikes. Plus in looking over the supports, the chances of adding more strikes was extremely low compared with the chance of fortifying or boosting them.
I also ruled out supports that were geared around firing powers. This team is all about match damage + passive damage. Firing powers will happen once in a while, but not often enough to justify selecting a support around it.
Fortifying tiles becomes more important in battles vs tile movers. There’s more of a chance they will match your strikes away (Or put you in a position where you have to). So fortifying them is key. For this reason, I went with 2 different builds:
Against tile movers:
Level 150 Hydra Henchmen on Juggy: 33.57% chance to fortify special on start of turn
Level 150 Chimichanga on Rocket: 34.74% chance to fortify special on start of turn
Level 150 Destroyer Gun on Kitty: 27.15% chance to fortify special on start of turn
Add those up, and there’s a 68.4% chance that at least one strike gets fortified each turn. That’s pretty good protection.
Against non-tile movers:
Level 150 Black Widow’s Batons on Juggy: +247 to Juggy’s purple, making him tank it over Kitty
Level 150 Chimichanga on Rocket: 34.74% chance to fortify special on start of turn
Level 200 Chewie on Kitty: 46.37% chance to create strength 369 attack tile when Kitty makes a match, + 15.79% chance to remove an enemy special when Kitty fires a power
I liked having the option to make a Kitty match here and there that would add a single attack tile to complement the strike tiles. Plus I’ve had more than one battle where firing Kitty’s Red or Yellow power removed an enemy countdown tiles (since I don’t have her covered to the point where she does that on her own). I generally avoid firing Yellow, as she then starts buffing protect tiles which I’ll never need as long as she keeps buffing the strike tiles.
Curious to see how others have been using supports on this team, and if folks find the discussion helpful, I’ll put together some other teams of interest in the future.
In the words of Supporticus: are you not entertained?
