So after realizing how much a support can slow down a match, I went to go remove them. Only to find no way possible to do so.
Other than equipping them to some other useless character, why is there not a way to unequip a support?!

There’s no way to just remove them, time doesn’t factor in.
Theoretically you can completely remove a support by selling the character it’s equipped to. Having said that though, that’s probably not an ideal route you’d want to take.
I’d recommend waiting the 2 hours, and then equipping the support onto another character that you don’t frequently use, as a way to “unequip it” from a character you use a lot.
