The Gauntlet.... Really?

This is the worse, most unbalanced event mpq has put forth to date. Over scaled and under rewarded. Nuff said. icon_rolleyes.gif

Seriously?

I feel sorry for scottee already.

It’s called the GAUNTLET for a reason. It’s supposed to be hard and challenging for the veterans with maxed 166 rosters. If it was supposed to be a cakewalk, they would rename the event “a walk in the park with Bagman”.

The consensus so far for the event is that it’s a nice change of pace, and most people do enjoy it. So quit complaining.

I’m enjoying it quite a bit. It’s challenging my strategy. And I’m nowhere near the maxed rosters. I do find it a bit under-rewarded, but I’m playing for the challenge and not the covers this time.

Rewards could be just a little bit better… But on the other hand since they are not I don’t feel pressure to actually beat the Gauntlet or get mad if I eventually happen to barely miss those rewards. That being said I do find lvl300 enemies in Gauntlet: Finale to be a bit too much of a challenge. So scaling could use some extra tweaking.

Seriously, yes.

There is nothing worth playing for in that event. There is more ISO to be made in 4 simple lightning rounds than the gauntlet can supply through its entirety.

There is absolutely no competitive factor at all, not even a friendly one. People keep saying there is no “grinding” yet the same people keep complaining about burning health packs up anyway.

The newbies who still need that c.storm cover, that don’t yet have bp or even punisher are completely screwed and left to the token lottery just so they can complete an event that can easily prove to be as frustrating as the hunt, when trying to take down sentry/laken/hood with ½ leveled wolvy/c.storm/obw boosted to the nines.

I mean come on, where is the upside to this event? The developers need to know that even though there were a bunch of good first impressions for the gauntlet, its not all coming up roses now that we have gotten in to it.

Lastly I guess if my rantings looked bad on my alliance mates, I suppose I should just quit the fabulous “F2P Veterans” and apply to the flock of sheep.

The challenge is fine but the scaling is not. You can’t say 2* roster face level 180 looks fair so 3* roster face level 300 and 4* roster face level 395 are all fair too, but that’s how the event works. Depending on the exact encounter it is possible everyone faces unfair scaling though it’s generally more unfavorable toward more developed roster simply because once enemies get higher than level 300 there’s literally nothing clever you can do to beat it.

No. Most people don’t enjoy it. Most pool of death players enjoy it because they have the rosters to be able to tackle it but most players aren’t in the pool of death so most players don’t enjoy an event that amounts to running into an impossible brick wall. Short of insane luck that rarely ever happens, it’s not possible for most players to beat this event. That isn’t challenging. Challenging is beatable but a challenge. Impossible to beat is impossible.

You may consider it people complaining but I would imagine that’s because you have numerous maxed out 166’s (or more) and thus you’re part of the pool of death and thus don’t realize how impossible the event is for the majority of players.

What’s the relevance of this comment? The Gauntlet isn’t an alliance event. scottee is unaffected whether quadiak plays it or not.

As for me, I liked the idea of the gauntlet, but as with many others, have quickly realized that the rewards compared to the effort is not worth it.

I am glad it’s not an alliance event, as I can play a node here or there for fun without feeling like I’m letting my team down. I do wish the scaling was a bit more manageable though - I don’t’ even think I’m going to get to Finale.

Whilst I disagree with my alliance-mate in his opinion of the event, I’ll step up to bat for him to defend his right to speak it. If you want to be the kind of person who says “quit complaining” on a forum, you might want to make sure you’ve never uttered a single complaint of your own, aye?

That being said, the event scaling needs to align better to the rewards, absolutely, but other than that I’ve been enjoying it greatly.

FYI…I only have 1 maxed 166 (Patch), and I’ve made it near the end of the final gauntlet. You’d be surprised how effective some teams are at taking down 200+ opponents if you experiment with certain combinations.

Devs, please don’t turn the gauntlet into a little kids soccer game where they hand out trophies to everyone. icon_lol.gif

The first person to clear the event in my bracket has nobody higher than level 94. The scaling punishes people who have a roster with only a few high level characters and the rest underpowered, but it’s absolutely not impossible for a 2* player.

I so want to play a new PVE called “An Unexpectedly Fun Journey - Bilbo Bagman’s Tale”

Firstly I would like to point out that I have the very best alliance mates who seem able to, not only understand me, but also provide unequaled support for a subject to which the may or may not disagree. Just gotta love my brothers and sister.

Secondly it has been pointed out through my very same brethren, that I tend to post with more emotion than tact. For this I do feel I owe the entire community an apology, I am sorry(yes I am also canadian, lol).

Lastly I have no issues with the concept of “The Gauntlet” I was simply trying to state what Phantron likely described much better than I did myself. Simply put, the rewards available for completing this event are no where near what they should be for the scale of the event. I find it similar to what I would imagine working for about 25% of minimum wage would feel like. Now put a pot of 750HP at the end of the finale and I would see a reason to feel compelled to play it through.

PS. Even though I am F2P I have a roster of 40+ slots including a 186 x-force and 10 fully leveled 3* characters. There Is no physical reason as to why I would not be able to finish the gauntlet, I just dont see the worth in it.

Was a challenge, got a pile of iso and two usable covers out of it. I give the event a thumbs up even if it did kill some healthpacks. It let me choose when to kill healthpacks and not strain any of my efforts elsewhere. And I am super happy that once you are done you don’t need to go back and hit nodes again unless you just really want to farm some iso.

Here’s my problem with The Guantlet. I don’t mind challenging events because you feel like you’ve accomplished something when you beat those nodes. I just don’t find any sense of achievement when every node requires at least three attempts plus boosts – and I only win because the board was favorable to me or the AI had a TU that required 16 AP when anything requiring 10 or less would have killed my last remaining player (this happened twice). That’s just dumb luck. Considering two to three losses means I usually have to wait to heal because my significant damage dealers are dead means progression has effectively been one node every 3-5 hours since the last half of Heroes. The result is that I can’t play the event with any consistency, it is extremely frustrating, and winning does not reflect any better gameplay or strategy on my part.

I also have an extremely balanced roster. I have 15 max-level 3s, plus 10 other 3s of level 100 or above (including a second Sentry). Maybe I have a problem scaling-wise because I have fully covered Fury, X-Force and IW, but none are above 200. However, that should not fully explain why I’m consistently facing opponents twice my levels. That scaling system was created to offset the overuse of SpiderMan, Classic Mags, OBW (with healing), and MN Mags/Classic Storm with environments. Now that the player has none of those options, the scaling needs to be fixed. Otherwise, the game becomes unplayable.

This opinion is really confusing to me.

This is finally a true PVE event where you don’t need to compete for your prizes, you simply play to get them. Because of this, logically it should be scaled steeply. You should have to earn your prizes whether there is competition or not.

People think the prizes aren’t worth it? That is hilarious, I will gladly take down some random AIs to earn a bunch of ISO AND needed 3*s.

It’s nice to play an event stress free because of no time restraints and no worrying about your prizes getting taken away by other players.

Facing down level 160+ enemies is not something a player with a 2*->3* transitioning roster can do for extended amount of matches without considerably amount of retries and luck or considerably ISO or HP investement on boosts. Yet precisely the players that are transitioning from 2* to 3* right now have most to gain from older 3* covers as are being offered by the Gauntlet event. Cost/benefit says that at the presented level of challenge, the rewards are not worth it for the audience that stands to gain most from them. What’s so hard to understand about that?

We’re not saying there should be no challenge at all. We’re not saying that the challenge should not be steep.
We are, however, saying that currently the challenge is set too steep. And that is all we are saying.
