Keep in mind before some of you start posting replys that this JUST MY OPINION.

I see character s like Thor, Cap America, and the new mohawk Storm being called Lazy because the developers made the powers the same.

Well, that is not how I see it. I have been doing a lot of research on this game. I looked over the forum posts all the way back to Dec and Nov of 2013, and some back further. As well as facebook, wiki, and anywhere else on the net I could reference to MPQ.

Lets take the new Storm. Mohawk Storm is pretty much the same as modern Storm. But, Mod Storm is one of my favorite characters. Unfortunately I cant use her in high level matchs since being a 1* character she level caps at 50.

I found a lot of people saying similar things about Thor, Cap and a few others.

So, it seems to me the D3 was NOT being lazy, but upgrading the charaters we liked. Now with Mohawk Storm I can use her in higher matches cause she is 3*. People said that Cap & Thor should be 3*, so the dev made them that way, while still leaving us the orignal 2* characters. But not changing their abilities. There are several characters that are 1 and 2* that I would love to use more often, but I can’t use them in 3* matches against level 115, 125, or lvl 141 opponents. So by making an upgraded version, like Mohawk Storm, I can use the powers I like more often now without my level 50, 69, or 85 characters causing me to lose the match because their life isn’t high enough or their powers are too weak. Like with modern Storms red ability. I love that power, but it is nt helpful against a lvl 141 hulk. BUT, if Storm was 3* at level 141 and not 1* at level 50, it would be far more effective.

So after looking over posts and replys for the last 7 to 10 months or so, I have come to the conclusion that D3 was NOT being lazy, but giving the players what they asked for. There are hundreds and hundreds of different marvel characters to choose from, so it not from lack of choices. So instead of giving us totally new ones all the time they sometimes upgrade the old when players ask things like, " Man I love Thors Call of the Storm, if only he was 3* instead of 2, that would be awesome." You can’t really fault D3 for giving players what they wanted now can you?

That is of course, as I said, just my opinion.

Here’s my opinion:

They are lazy. Almost identical powers, colors, and art assets. I still like all the lazy charactes and hope to get them to 141, but they’re lazy. As far as my forum browsing experience goes, everyone wants Deadpool and Iron Patriot. I don’t recall anyone ever asking for copypasta Thor.

Really looking forward to getting mohawk storm to 141 and pairing it with BP, but I’m still going to call them lazy.

Seconded. I was looking forward to getting MoStorm but since I can’t even play right now on Steam because the game won’t update, it’s fairly certain that I won’t make it in top 40. I hope they don’t try to get away again with a silly 100 HP gift.

They’re incredibly lazy. They’re not playtested well, they’re not carefully designed, and they were clearly created as part of a directive to push out more characters to increased HP sales. Captain America’s the only one that’s remotely playbalanced, and it’s because he’s based on an underpowered 2*.

I don’t have a problem with them making 3* versions of Captain America, Thor, or Storm; they’re all major characters that deserve 3* versions. But those characters needed to be designed properly, balanced, and treated like any new character would be. They clearly didn’t do that.

There is no universe where a C-lister like Daken is major enough to deserve a second version. I’m annoyed the 3* - any 3* of him - even exists.

In game where they cant do such a simple thing as scrolling through leaderboard you got idea that theyre doing lazy characters FOR US? Wow, Im really impressed.

They are releasing 3* versions of popular characters. Can’t fault them there - taking advantage of demand is the cornerstone to increasing sales. However, when you simply cut and paste an almost identical skillset, that is undeniably lazy and does nothing to help balance or the stagnant meta

Anyway, which part of “we have to buy the EXACT SAME characters, just with higher stats, all over again” is NOT lazy to you?

If they wanted to upgrade them they could have you know… But no, they made exact copies as new covers so you can spend that month time or money again on something that has already proven popular, demanded and with almost no work involved.

The “lazy” characters are somewhat lazy since they share the same abilities as their 2* counterpart, just with some little tweaks on the better side, but I mostly call them lazy because it is easier name them LT, LD, LC, and LS instead of their full name icon_e_smile.gif

How dare you post your opinion, and what’s worse, you expect the Internet to NOT put you on blast just because you typed JUST MY OPINION in all caps! Ludicrous! Ridiculous! Scandalous even! icon_e_wink.gif

That said, I disagree with the original posters assertion, mainly because I’d much rather see brand new characters with brand new move sets and color combos to promote roster diversity in tourneys and generally make the game more interesting.

Few weeks ago, probably just dozen people know…but locked has been promoted “lazy”.

Indeed, this is pretty much the argument for Gold characters. This is not to say that the Gold characters aren’t “lazy,” but they’re certainly not merely the player-hating cash grabs that some forumites portray them as.

I don’t see how the characters weren’t playtested well.

CMags and pre-nerf Spidey are/were arguably more OP than LT on offense. LT can be shut down fairly easily using Hood or even OBW (I’ve been on both sides of such LT shutdowns).

Mr. Rogers was a notable modification of 2* Cap, upping his red to be a serious damage dealer, and upgrading his blue with a Protect tile drop. He’s a solid, but certainly not OP, 3*. UDaken may be OP, but he’s hardly the most OP. Sentry (a non-Gold character) arguably outclasses him. Daken’s role in comic-book lore probably makes him undeserving of aurification, but he was a very popular 2* character.

As for Megastorm, we don’t even know the true scale of her powers yet.

I’m lost as to what special treatment the Gold characters got that other new characters didn’t.

Except for the hordes of players who made 2* Cap one of the most popular characters in the entire game, even though his powers suck goat bollocks.

Eh, if you wanna see lazy go look up at how many times Capcom reused Morrigan’s sprite.

I see no problem with the term lazy, however as HailMary pointed out, Steve Rogers serves as an example of how they could have done it.

Similar skills, however slight modifications that make them more unique/strategic upon upgrade.

At the end of the day, considering how much money a usable character costs - new art would be appreciated.

They could have spent time working on X23 instead, since she is a more popular character in the comics than Daken.

I can quite assure you that the lack of an ability to scroll through the leaderboards is highly intentional.

The less you know about your surroundings, the greater the chance you will act irrationally in a situation.

If you knew that you have a 200 point leaders over the players right behind you in PvP, you wouldn’t buy a shield to protect your points or risk playing one more fight to secure your position otherwise. In PvE, you wouldn’t attempt that level 200x3 pin with full rainbow boosts across the board if you knew that you had a 10,000 point lead over the person at the lowest score for a given prize tier.

In fact, the only time that new information is given to players, is when that information is used to create additional stress and uncertainty. (See: R55 addition of full point timer refresh meters to nodes).

Every facet of this game is very carefully designed to elicit a specific response form the playerbase. Unfortunately, all of these responses are designed to be in the devs’ favor and not the players’ favor.

Errr, forumites have been requesting refresh timers for a while. I’m not sure how adding refresh timers increases uncertainty.

Also, you can see the players “right behind you” (and in front of you) in PVP, though being able to see point values at certain reward thresholds would be quite useful.
