What cards would you like to see as future Masterpieces?

What cards would you like to see as future Masterpieces, and how would they work?

Here’s my first suggestion:

Mana cost: 15
Power/Toughness: 2/1
Abilities:
*Sensei Golden-Tail gets +1/+1 for each creature your opponent controls (if they cannot directly translate Bushido).
*Activate 2 white: target creature you control gets +1/+1 and becomes a samurai in addition to its other creature types.
*If you control 3 or more Samurai, Sensei Golden-Tail gains prevent damage and vigilance. If this is the first time this ability is triggered, then reinforce each other creature you control.

Rancor. Definitely Rancor.

I like this. How would it work though?

They only take cards from Masters sets as masterpieces if there aren’t any masterpieces in the sets. So going off Masters 25, here are a few I think would make for good adds to the game:

Could be made to fetch the next creature in your library below a certain power. For this game maybe 4 or less.

We have a creature similar to this already in game, but that one only effects the cost of supports. Having another solid hate bear that can also tax spells would be a nice add, and could really impact certain builds.

This could be an interesting card for creatureless builds. They’ve added in “can’t attack” effects to the game, so it would be a question of how difficult it would be to have the game count the number of cards in your hand.

Since there’s such rampant removal, a creature you have to kill 4 times to get rid of entirely would be interesting, and could make wrath effect cards like Fumigate, and Bontu’s Last Stand more of an asset.

Doomsday.

No idea how it would work, but lets do it anyway.

Also, my first ever legendary Experimental Kraj

Maybe he gets the activated abilities of buffed creatures? And an activate that buffs an un-buffed creature? That would fit with what Merfolk got (and in the same colors, too!), so it should work here.

Aaaah! I was not keeping track of what cards were in the most recent masters set. Thanks for the heads up! Yeah those cards would make awesome additions. Now to brainstorm how they’d work

What do you think about this?

Mana Cost: 10
Card Type: Support

Shield Counters: 5

When Doomsday enters the battlefield, pick 1 on the next 10 cards in your library and fetch it; repeat the process 5 times. Then you take X damage, where X is your current life total divided by 2.

This support does not lose shield from gem swaps and cannot be destroyed by spells or creatures.

At the beginning of your turn, this support loses 1 shield. When this support is destroyed, you lose Y life, where Y is your current life total.

Behold the Beyond was a similar spell in paper magic in some ways to Doomsday.

I could theoretically see Doomsday, using this as a baseline, could work something like this:

10 mana

Fetch the next 6 cards from your library. Each card in your hand gains 5 mana, then you lose life equal to the number of black gems times 2.

Side note: I LOOOOVE Doomsday, it sets up the entire win condition in my Inalla commander deck

that would be a sweet interpretation as well!

My only thing is that it wouldn’t touch on the last-5-cards difference, which I think is one of the biggest separations of the two. At that point, I’m more afraid of decking myself than losing life

True, though generally if you’re playing Doomsday, you play it and immediately win the game, or at least that’s what happens when I play it… and ironically I do it by decking myself on purpose

That’s genius, I never would have thought of that. Time for some quick deckbuilding!

Combo is:

Have Azami/Arcanis or some other cheap card draw effect available.
Play Doomsday
Stack your library with:

  1. Faithless Looting
  2. Laboratory Maniac
  3. Wheel of Fortune
4/5) Doesn’t matter, you’re never going to see these cards.

Use your card draw to draw a card
Cast Faithless Looting to draw two and discard two.
Cast Laboratory Maniac
Cast Wheel of Forune

Win the game.

I’d like to see some werewolves (and Pirates etc.) showing up in the masterpieces in the future of this game. Arlinn being usable in standard for the lucky and the elite works be quite interesting (and the same for other Planeswalkers with abilities based on creature types).

So, battlebond masterpieces next, no?

Doubling season maybe? Land tax?

I hadn’t thought of that combo before. It’s pretty clever

Though I don’t really see much longevity playing a deck like that. Like a well-crafted storm or affinity deck, you may pull off a few easy wins in the beginning, but generally after that your playgroup will gang up on you, specifically put cards in their deck to shut this combo down (giving you a guaranteed loss), or just not want to play your deck.

tricky one here…since creatures have to attack

Mana Cost: 12
Card Type: Support

Shield Counters: 2

At the beginning of your turn, this support gains 1 shield.

If this support has 5 shields or more, it permanently gains "Activate 4: Create a 4/4 white Angel creature token with flying.

It’s a commander deck. So in my 100 cards, I have a couple other combos tucked away. But yeah. Not a deck you’d want to play all the time.

oh okay, commander isn’t as bad as it’s more relaxed. I’m used to playing 60-card where the most creative and brutal (non-finite or land-destruction) combos are permitted; a quick-win deck revolving around this combo would be allowed, though the likelihood of it winning wouldn’t significantly decrease after the first match or two lol

I would love to see the Praetor’s

Child of Alara destroys everything, and what about all the Moxes like ruby, sapphire, jet etc, something like a support that increases that colour bonus by like 5 for e.g.
