One year and 61 patches on, what do you miss most from the changes made to MPQ?
edit: swap in “characters revert to full health on level up” for “avoid”
edit: swap in “original Lightning Round 3* rewards” for “pre-level shift”
Not actually been in the game long enough to appreciate the changes before May, so if there’s something you feel strongly about, I’d be glad to add to the list. This is NOT intended as a petition to bring back any of these changes - fixing a broken ability can only be a good thing for the game after all. It is for us to recall and think that hey, kinda missed that aspect of the game after it’s gone. And newer players can appreciate how far the game has, er, progressed. And the anniversary seems like an appropriate time to take stock.
If there’s one thing I missed most, its not starting on this game earlier. When the number of >3* characters were still manageable and reasonably within humanly(=non-whaley/zombiely) abilities to collect covers for.
True healing really damaged the game the most. I’m pretty much just using Patch/Daken in PVP now, except sometimes at the very end, because it’s literally the only way to play in a sustained way during the week.
Though I also really, really miss when heroics were rare events.
I literally miss nothing on this list. Every one of those changes improved the game, IMHO.
I miss the changes they haven’t made yet more. I miss the changes that will make the *** transition easier. I miss the IW and IM40 and Bagman buffs. I miss the token solution. I miss the improvements they need to make to sharding.
All told this game has drastically improved since I started playing 226 days ago. I do miss environmental tiles but that’s not to say I hate the current iteration of TU’s. They are very different mechanics and both are fun. If I had to choose one…I’d go back to the environmental system and buff the joke stages to be on par with the ice and jungle ones. I wish that if you equipped 0 TU’s into a battle that the game reverted to the old environmental tiles system by default. Admittedly, that would be sloppy game design but it would be fun.
I never actually bought a 10 pack when featured characters were guaranteed but I always agreed with that design choice. I personally feel that a 10-pack purchased today should include a guaranteed 3* cover that you DO NOT OWN. This guarantees a level of satisfaction with every purchase.
you forgot when lightning rounds always gave a 3 star cover or even the token that always gave a 3 star. these tokens just piss me of nowadays when I fight my brains out in LRs only to get a 2* cover from the LR token…
I selected five, but I miss Magneto’s blue the most. The removal of board-control as a strategy has diminished the game experience tremendously. Now the game pretty much boils down to how much damage will you take each match and how long will your health-packs hold out before you have to wait for them to regenerate.
And the purported justification for nerfing Magneto’s blue – to curb PVE scaling – turned out to be as tinykitty as every other excuse the Devs have given for game changes since scaling remains out of control.

Wait… Huzzah! I don’t miss that at all!
I miss old cMagneto’s blue very much since we sorely lack similar 2* or 3* abilities; only cHawkeye/MMN can also create critical tiles for a reasonable cost. I miss cMags having a strong
Yelena, GSBW, Fury, Thor are all expensive-ish for crit tile generation.
I miss not having to worry about the littlest health losses on my characters, too. Now having a deep roster, especially true healers, high health characters and characters that can mitigate health losses like the Hood is a must.
Miss tokens having decent drop rates, too.
Don’t miss the 3* covers being sold for HP since I could never afford to sell 3* covers back when that was still true; the ISO sell-back increase was appreciated since it turned out that ISO is the bottleneck of the long game and not HP.
Don’t miss X-Force being a joke; one more enjoyable character for the players! I still believe in buffs more than nerfs (that does not include our glorious Fabio aka Sentry).
