Who are your favorite (non-Kangveil) Challenge Node teams?

Haven’t messed with Viper much yet outside of running her with Red Skull and Zemo when she’s required. Would one of the Hydra characters round out the trio? I’ll have to review their kits.

Naw. Run Viper w purple ap. May w green ap and someone that can tank w purple ap. Fire purple, let the opponent match, fire Viper’s green until dead. Granted, a fatter Viper is better tho.

Having both 5Bucky and 1a5Venom boosted in PVE is a great time to try them with 4Moonstone.

Here’s a new one I have used for fun. It’s not fast at all but you can usually win before the other team takes a turn. If the board doesn’t fall right, it might not work well. But I have enjoyed it:

All 550. Chasm (Refreshment Cart) / Toad (Quantum) / 1a5Hawkeye (Batons)

Basically just fire purple and try to get more purple as needed. Toad’s passive hits for 51k each purple. So it can take a while but it works.

Why Chasm? What’s he bring to the table apart from turn 1 stun?

I have been using Toad as the third member of the Ghost Rider 99/Hawkeye team with exactly these supports. Not sure what your definition of fast is but it finishes battles in around 30-45 seconds with a L320 GR99 and L280 Toad. Take on maxed out, boosted L672s all day!

It’s the stun. Some of those CN teams have characters I don’t want to place tiles before I can fire anything or they have damage nullifiers (like M’baku or Juggs) that don’t exist while stunned.

Can one of you explain this team to me?

My 2099 Rider is 302 (5/3/5) and my Toad is 284 (4/4/5). I put Cart on Toad, Batons on Swordmaster and Realm on 2099 to do the 5E node in the current PvE.

I hit on both supports (12 purple). Used Riders Purple and that can’t be it because once invisible you can’t use his Purple again. So I used Toads Purple and yeah I get some cascades and gradually I get +1 Black to fire Toad Black (or am I meant to use Riders Black for bonus damage?). Regardless, just repeatedly firing Toads Purple even with 12 starting Purple, the board ran dry of Purple and cascades stopped and I had to retreat. Tried 2-3 times and got same result.

Hawkeye/Shang with Cart on Hawkeye, Chimi on Shang and Batons on Swordmaster (or whomever the 5E is) never ever fails (in challenge nodes obviously 3A4 May goes in the middle with Batons) due to running out of matches. Also they seem a lot faster than using Toads 11K damage passive from his Blue due to Shangs increasing damage bonus.

You want GR99 to be matching all his colours if possible. So Batons are for GR99. Hawkeye purple then triggers GR99 every time you’re making a purple match. Toad is there to basically supplement the effect of cart (which is on Hawkeye) with his passives and accelerate the match. You rarely, if ever, need to fire any of GR99’s abilities although it can be quick to throw out a purple followed by a black as the finisher.

For a 5E node you can generally get away with using the essential in Toad’s spot if the 5E is not a purple user or if the 5 is greatly underleveled. Otherwise the 5 will match purple and GR99 will not trigger.

That’s reasonable. I’ve swapped in Chasm teams for CNs against Strange or Lockjaw. GR99 slices through Juggs and MBaku like they have no defensive abilities though. Since adding Toad to the team they even power through AP tax opponents like Peggy too.

The magic with GR2099 is his purple PASSIVE which does percentage damage if GR2099 makes a match or fires a power against an opponent with more HP.

My Hawkeye is leveled way higher than my GR2099 so Rider hardly ever makes any matches to get his purple passive to trigger. Instead, I use the Hawkeye to build AP in order to spam GR2099’s powers.

I try to build the AP so I can fire GR2099’s purple first to turn him invisible and then either the black or red immediately after that. So that’s two triggers of the purple percentage damage and when the second power hits, that should also stun the target.

To sum up, the optimal build is one where GR2099 can make matches as @Grantosium notes, but it will also work by having GR2099 spam his powers.

Does he survive the other team making matches? Sure he has some damage reduction but those 5E/CN node enemies start doing like 5-10K per match 3 and the AI always seems to get some cascades.

Most winifintes don’t allow the enemy more than 1 move to prevent that.

The enemy team don’t get a turn.

Edit just to try and actually add something constructive: you only need one of the AP supports to fire. The odds of neither firing, I calculate at 5.6%. If the CN or 5E team don’t have 5 star match damage available you can play it out for 1-2 turns but if they have a 5 star then best to retreat. If he takes some damage it’s actually advantageous as there’s less chance of landing the final enemy just under the activation threshold.

I tried again on the final clears last night and he just ripped the CN with May as the 3rd. He tanked Red/Purple so was easy to make matches in his colors that triggered Hawkeye + Cart. I saw numbers like 300K damage thanks to May and he ate 850s in 2-3 matches. Just amazing there.

Couldn’t use him in 5E since Swordmaster tanks Red/Purple

He was very good in 3/4 essentials and the wave node (hardest non essential). Without May it takes more matches (4-6) but still very good damage if he tanks Red/Purple.

Definitely faster than Shang when he can match at least 2 colors one being Purple. He’s earned a Saved team slot!

I don’t know why I’ve never thought to try GR99 with Moonstone for 5E cases where the essential tanks purple but not black. Probably because my supports aren’t at great levels for yellow AP. Will try next clear.
