Yes I think this is definitely the case as its been said many times. They want to monetize players sooner then later so making the casual player experience easier/better is in their interest. Hopefully he wins some tournaments and some covers and sticks around an drops some money then your invested and probably less likely to leave.
The net effect is that this change is yet another “feature” that forces / gently nudges players to play the way Devs want, instead of the way they want
If this was the case they shot themselves in the foot in a way by making under covered builds more viable, now shorting covers is even more viable for things like IM40’s yellow or possibly a super fast OBW recon at 1 purple to get ap costs down.
There’s an entire level of strategy based on color covering. If we could adjust covers up and down that would really enhance the covering strategy element of the game. Unfortunately, a down level ability on the fly would cause a lot of exploitable and hassles I’m guessing. Too bad.
I lost a couple key cover arrangements with the update. Lame. Maybe it would work if you could permanently lose covers on purpose and would have to re-earn them to go up. Might work.
I’d like to think that customer support could fix this very easily – by taking levels from Hood – but I don’t know if they can directly edit your roster.
If the data is server side, I really don’t see why they can’t do that.
It doesn’t make under covered builds more viable. You could do both
those things before. An Iron Man missing a cover might slightly benefit from the change as it’ll make it easier for him to tank colors, but people seldom use him outside when he’s boosted anyway. A poorly covered widow is if anything, more disadvantaged now with the increased range of levels making her even more fragile.
Then what was the point of the level shifting? My understanding is that it was intended to make poorly covered 3* covers viable… why would it not apply to intentionally poorly covered builds as well?
Te point was to make poorly covered 3* covers LOOK viable. And they definitely look much better from * player perspective starting at 40 instead of 15 and barely going up even with 3-4 covers.
If it doesn’t go beyond looks not interesting, especially as the target audience is people who are dumb and generally lack good judgement of value.
Yep I am screwed. I had’nt noticed until now, but yes, I had some characters like the Hood and Spidey in 101 level and know both of them they claim yellow over Patch :S
None of these skills are necessarily buffed or nerfed. Since every other skill’s damage went up, it’s about as easy to do 5% or 20% as it was before the changes, when using comparable-tier characters.
It’s as easy to do it with powers, yes. But in my limited experience, it seems like tile damage scaled up at a lesser rate than health. Maybe I’m just crazy, but it seems like it takes me a lot longer to kill cStorm with tile damage than it used to. Plus I haven’t once, since the change, set off Tempest with a match. Again, perhaps it is perceptual bias. I haven’t looked into the hard numbers so I don’t know for sure, but it certainly feels like health went up a lot more than match damage did.
Here’s the fix here. I’ve written it up as a level drop mechanism in the Suggestions forum. If you want it, go and upvote it there, and make an argument for why IceIX is wrong.
I just wonder if they thought up the level scaling but didn’t take the powers into account. Like they thought all they’re doing is bumping a number up to improve the lower end and the higher end wouldn’t change.
Except we found out that the higher end did change and there’s a shift in the balance of power.
Really, they could make a few little tweaks to the colour levels and get things back on track. We don’t need major features adding, just get the characters to the hierarchy they were at before the level cap increase.
I don’t know if it helps, but Hood can always hide behind BP, because they have exactly the same strong colors in exactly the same order. It’s not that strong on defense, because Hood’s black can interfere with BP’s, but it’s not the worst thing ever. Add 3* Thor, and you have a group that’s only missing purple, is very tanky, and has massive damage in green and black…which are linked colors for boosting purposes. (Downside is a weak active blue and triple covered yellow.)
