That leaves Gambit (crowd favorite, and a definite purple user), Iceman (please turn tiles blue), Beast, Shadowcat, Angel, Nightcrawler, etc.
Nightcrawler should have a slash attack that takes out a row of tiles, a teleport AP steal ala Black Widow, and a passive avoid ala Hawkeye.
Gambit should have a (52 pickup) world disruptor attack ala Sentry that doesn’t hurt your team, a staff attack that stuns one turn when maxed, and another kinetic energy attack.
Iceman should have a Hawkeye stun arrow ability, a bizzard that damages all and turns tiles blue, and freeze beam attack.
Beast should have a leap / lunge, dodge, and claw attack.
Archangel would be more interesting than Angel, imo.
Nothing would be less interesting than Angel. “Hey, look guys! I’ve got wings! Also I’m rich! Did I mention I have wings? Hey! Where’s everyone going? Come back!” Angel sucks. Nobody cared about him until he got harpooned and Big A made him awesome. 
There is no Angel but Archangel. Before that he was the most pointless X-men ever. And I’m including Dazzler and Jubilee in that group.
Gambit: Purple/Black/Red
Iceman: Blue/Yellow/Black
Nightcrawler: Black/Blue/Red or Blue/Red/Purple
Beast: Blue/Blue/Blue or Blue/Yellow/Red or even Blue/Purple/Black
At least Dazzler could shoot lasers. And she was sexy. Jubilee could…well…she could…well fuck it, she sucks too.

I heard X23, using the Wolverine art assets again.
Speaking on behalf of transition world, I’d rather get a lazy Black Panther, Daredevil, Falcon, Hood, Hulk, Psylocke, Punisher, Sentry, and/or SheHulk rather than a new 3 star. Lazy Torch is the best thing to happen to transition world in the past month by far.

Seriously? He looks like an Iso sink made redundant by sharing colours with Thor, Wolverine and Ares.
He shares 2 colors, a quality black does not exist in 2*land currently. Iso sink or not, anything with damage abilities and available covers means I can play longer and enjoy the game more

Exactly. So, Gambit. 
But really what is this “supposed to”? There is no supposed to anymore. They say whatever and do whatever. Pretty sure they also said we wouldn’t be getting more lazy characters after the first few. How’d that work out? Truth is money is running the show. If their beloved metrics told them Blacklash riding a MODOK-drawn rocket chariot would be a big seller then that’s what we’re going to get.

Next is going to be Squirrel Girl at 5* followed by Galactus at 1* with two passive powers.
I think there’s a lot less information about the next character than we think.
There was a point to this sentence, which I didn’t bother to fully explain. I did touch on it a bit further down when I refer to the fact that demiurge/IceIX likes to obsfuscate their true meaning with the little tidbits of information that leak out.
Known criteria:
- A new X-Men character is coming, and it’s not Cyclops, White Queen, Colossus or Rogue.
- There are more 3* heroes coming (is this really noteworthy?)
- Specifically a 3* female hero is in the works (this is noteworthy!)
Speculation (if there’s a IceIX post confirming, let me know)
- Dark Reign setting (we’re due for another story mission soon)
- money/popularity (popular heroes sell covers/packs)
- There’s really not that many 1 and 2* heroes left to Lazy up
- There won’t be two versions of a character at the same tier, eg. no Gold IM35 and 3* IM40. (although for the life of me I can’t think why not, there are 3 different ways to differentiate covers - and if you want to explore differet sets of a hero’s power you may as well make mutliples. But that’s a whole other discussion and now I’m rambling even though this is supposed to be a short aside. I should just stop.)
Best-fit candidates:
Mystique (Female, “X-men”, Dark Reign, popular/recognised, 3-star appropriate)
Mystique led the “Dark X-Men”, although only the actual comic book title used that name - in-universe they were simply called the “X-Men”, just as the Dark Avengers were simply called “Avengers”. So demiurge could play the “haha, technically she’s an X-Men in terms of Dark Reign story!” which is exactly the sort of thing I’d expect in order to obsfuscate the truth.
All that aside, she fits a few other pieces of criteria, that is being female and a good candidate for 3*. In fact, I think that she’d make an excellent candidate for a Lazy OBW: recon, espionage, just replace fake healing with something that creates friendly copies of enemy special tiles to emulate shape changing - more skill ranks = more tile types. Whether she’s an OBW clone or not, I’d still expect Blue, Black, Purple colours since that would deter teaming her with Black Widows, etc, but also let Mystique collect Purple to feed CMags (game mechanics grounded in lore!).
Special mentions:
Since there’s confirmation of a 3* female character, I think we need a few more ladies that are possible for inclusion. Unfortunately there’s not a whole heap in the DR storyline as far as I can tell, so this is mostly a list of characters that rate high on popularity polls and/or are somewhat known/recognisable characters.
Jean Grey. An obvious pick, but a character that demiurge cannot afford to get wrong on release. If anyone gets playtested it’ll be Jean.
X-23. Girl-wolverine. Not sure there needs to be any other explanation.
Scarlet Witch. Quite possibly an outlier. It seems like she wasn’t very active in the DR storyline, however she’s set to feature in Avengers2, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if there’s some Marvel directive to help familiarise people with a “fringe” character.
Runner-up list:
Nightcrawler
Now my knowledge of the actual Dark Reign storyline is very slim, but Kurt is listed as an active member of the X-Men during that period. He’s ended up rated fairly high on a few “most wanted” polls. I’d also say he’s known to even casual fans. Depending on what aspects of his character the devs want to focus on, he would likely fit nicely into the new “longer match duration” metagame that’s being pushed towards - through some kind of avoid mechanic where Nightcrawler can BAMF out of trouble.
I’d expect colours to be Red, Black, (Blue|Purple).
Angel/Archangel
Angel could really only be BagFalcon.
Archangel would at least be offensive-focused Falcon.
In any case, he’s a prime candidate since they can just recolour Falcon’s art assets. Maybe give him Red, Green, Black powers to be a complete opposite. Hopefully not, there’s an abundance of “samey” heroes in 3* tier so some variation would be super cool. (I think he’ll still end up using an existing combo; probably Blue, Purple, (Black|Red).)
