Was wondering with Amonkhet being after Aether Revolt what people think about having a planeswalker with three colors? Pretty sure the set will have a planeswalker Nicol Bolas who has always been red, black, blue and the game has been using planeswalkers from the current sets. Would that translate well to the game?
There would need to be a big change I think in the way dual colour cards are managed now.
It’s not going to be a popular move, but I think to have 3 colored planeswalkers, dual colored cards need to be restricted to only walkers that use both the colours instead of only one of them.
They seemed to intentionally skip Tamiyo when Eldritch Moon came out. A three color planeswalker with the game as is would possibly be too powerful unless you severely nerf mana gains in the two off colors.
For example with Tamiyo it might have been:
White +2
Blue +5
Black -2
Red -2
Green +2
On the point of Nicol Bolas, however, he’s so important that I think they’ll have to figure something out. I suspect many people will be upset if they can’t play him.
not even considering mana gain i would be concerns honestly about how could you pare down 3 decks worth of spells to just2 or 3 cards per color
I would love to build decks with 3 colors but I imagine it would cost 240k to level up the PW and not having the time for intensive grinding this would suck.
Why not? Deploy the Gatwwatch has already broken this game in half. The attempt to scale back power creep in kaladesh has achieved nothing but dissatisfaction in players. Lets just run this thing into the ground.
It can totally work and not be too OP, if you limit deck slots. I think it’s an underrated part of the game’s strategy. I would probably make Dovin almost all-support deck if I could.
I think they should hamper multi-colored PWs by both:
A. Restricting deck slots.
B. Nerfing mana gains. - It makes no sense that SR has far better mana gains than C2 for instance. They should probably go the other way where the more colors you have access to the less net mana gains you have.
Although I do Ohboy’s idea of having multicolored cards restricted to multicolored PWs, it wont fix the problem of having Deploy with Harness and Startled Awake in the same deck. Not sure anything other than awful mana gains can restrict that. Or you can nerf all of those cards like a reasonable human.
It’s really time for broken cards to get nerfed before it gets out of hand.
The community will just have to suck it up and act like grown ups and support nerfing the cards they currently enjoy using.
Being disappointed that new cards are not super OP/broken is just super short sighted.

There are no red-white-blue planeswalkers in the game. Bolas will be red-black-blue if he follows his own color history. So you’re not going to get those three cards in the same deck.
BTB+SA/AA is coming tho. Watch out for that.
